Kruger access town
Nelspruit is the place where to make it or break it in safari terms. As travel improvisation goes, the closest information point to the bus stop is hotel Orion. With nothing else in mind one can go there but be aware, the employees are ready to make a serious buck off you. The reception desk person suggested a safari company of a brochure at hand. The deal was to pay for the phone call. Rather bizarre set up if somebody advertises they should be able to pay for the call to reach them. When this was negotiated out of the way came the price of the safari which seemed moderate compared to the Jo’burg malls prices but the catch was that the safari starts from Hazyview which is a town about 40km up the road. A transfer was separate from the quoted price for the safari and believe it or not even more expensive than the safari itself. When the price was not accepted the receptionist/businesswoman asked what my price was; unbelievable. When I proposed 300 as opposed to the original 1200Rand she provided me with a very adamant “NO” but did not stop asking me for better concession on my part. Anyway, finally the deal crumbled, I went to the backpacker’s hostel, found safari trip for the next morning without paying for any transfers to some illegal taxi drivers and their hotel-planted agents.
