Beach on Plettenberg Bay

I am considering a trip to SA in August 2005 spending a week in Plett with a few days in Cape Town before and after. I know that's the off season but we can't get away from the UK at any other time
It's 35 years since I was last in Plett. Apart from the beach will there be much for me, my wife and teenage daughter and son to do/see there in August - i.e. shops, restaurants, local attractions etc?
Also can we expect much rain at that time of the year?

Compared to 35 years ago, you are not going to recognise the place! Plett has grown tremendously - actually far too much - and it is hardly recognisable as the sleepy beach holiday village of 1960's.
Plett is now the premier holiday playground of the South Africa jet set. They jet their maids down from Johannesburg (sometimes in private jets) to air out the mansions, and dust off the Porsches from time to time.
Many shops, restaurants (no cinema) and tourist "magnets" in Plett and the nearby surroundings, though August is a very quiet month. Peak of the whale-watching season though.
The weather is clearer compared to peak summer (less cloudy, less rain) but not as hot because the sun hours per day are less (later sunrise - earlier sunset).
The teenagers will be fine there, judging by the fact that Plett has become the place to let their hair down after writing Matric (final school exams) in November. Bunjee jumping and other adventure sports are on offer at the nearby Storms River area. There is a primate park and elephant sanctuary nearby. Boat rides up the Keurbooms and Storms rivers. The whale and dolphin watching is also from power boats.
Don't miss the craft shops, particularly the "Global Village" in Piesang Valley Road. Looks like nothing from the outside, but do venture inside.

Take a scenic drive and visit the Trumilk Dairy in the Bitou Valley for cheese, and wine tasting. Trumilk Dairy recently received an award for the best feta cheese in South Africa. Their production includes cheddar cheese and a handmade Camembert. Carefully selected wines from the Cape and Klein Karoo compliment cheese that can be tasted and bought on the farm.
