The Grand: The Grand

What an experience to stay here. There were no cupboards in the room we stayed in. The beds are extremely high off the ground, you are provided with a footstool to get on the bed! Our room had a little private garden with outside shower and day beds to relax in. The food in the restaurant area is absolutely fantastic. This little boutique hotel does not come cheap, we paid R900 per person per night

Every room with its individual character.

The Grand: The Grand

Very exclusive boutique hotel. I visited two of the rooms on the ground level. They were absolutely stunning with their very high beds (you have a little footstool to get up!). It is just an experience of a lifetime to stay there. Cost is R950 pp

The Grand Cafe and Rooms: Boho Boutique Hotel

The Grand Cafe definately lived up to it write up in Conde Nast Traveller (it made The Hot List 2005). The funny thing was we met a family the evening before in Swellendam who were staying at the hotel the same night we were. I guess the hotel is not too well known- as it only has eight rooms and no lobby. You stop by the maitre d' station in the restaurant and they give you your room key and collect your luggage from your car. But you don't miss the lobby at all. The rooms are lovely with all types of amenities you might desire. We had lavender oil packets on the night stands to help us sleep and complementary candy bars/chips in case we got hungry. In addition to fluffy robes, there were white linen nightshirts- in cases we had forgotten to pack pjs.

One of the best amenities was the hotel restaurant. See my restaurant tip for the description. A full breakfast - I had french toast- but there were lots of selections is included at the restaurant with the price of the room. There is also a swimming pool for guest use. The rooms on the lower floors have outside patios/gardens.

We stayed in room six which was upstairs with a wonderful view of the restaurant and lagoon/beach. The room is huge- more like a loft then a hotel room. The big iron bed is so high off the floor that there are red velvet foot stools on each side to help guest get into it. The sitting area includes a red velvet couch and a old fashioned tub situated in front of the french windows so one can bathe while taking in the view. The bathroom- at least the sinks and the shower- are in the sitting area. The shower is against the outside wall with a huge cement wall dividing it from the sink area. There are two spa shower heads and enough room for 4-6 people to shower at the same time. There is a separate little room off of the sink area with a door that locks for the toliet.

Four seasons guesthouse: Welcome Home

Great rooms with detail for quality and with the perfect hostess Nolene.

Luxury 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home with enclosed sun lounge, laundry facilities. Patio, sea views, close to town and beach.

And the breakfast was phenomenal.

When we stopped, at this guesthouse, a nice dark lady comes out and says welcome home, welcome home. This surprised us, but this was the way that she greeted everybody there. We already felt at home thanks to Nolene.

You have a very nice view over Plettenberg Bay and the city itself.
