Wedding Anniversary

by NeilRoss

We will be in PE visiting my folks over December. It is our wedding anniversary during this period and I would like to take my wife somewhere special to eat and even stay over. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We both love the outdoors.

I can Highly recomend ADDO Elephant Park Lodges/Excecutive Tents.
It is about 50kms from PE.Throw in a night drive Fantastic. You can also do your own day drive you will see more Elephant in one day than a Week anywhere else.
I have stayed there personally four times. They also sell some lovely exquisite jewlry incl 24ct gold a good prices. The resturant is also no too bad.
If you cannot get accomadation in the park then stay just outside at Chrislin B&B absolutly an awsome place just ten mins out of the park. They do a fab Braai-Vleis (Barbie)

Travel Tips for Port Elizabeth

About 40 km west of Port Elizabeth on the N2 a turn off to the left takes you to the VAN STADENS WILD FLOWER RESERVE.
There are picnic spots and paths through the reserve and into the Van Stadens River gorge.
The road fromthe reserve continues into the VAN STADENS PASS ,a short scenic drive into the gorge and to the village of THORNHILL.

Continuing west on the N2 a turn off leads to Loerie and the Gamtoos River Valley.
From this road there is a turn off immediately to the right.
This leads to a 29 km scenic drive through the Longmore ,Otterford and Loerie plantations.
Permits must be obtained from the foresters residence.
The main road continues 61 km through the fruit, vegetable and tobacco farmlands of the GAMTOOS VALLEY.

The APPLE EXPRESS narrow -gauge railway line, used to transport fruit from the Langkloof and Patensie to Port Elizabeth, winds through the valley.

The Donkin pyramid

by mvtouring

The original settlement of Port Elizabeth was named in 1820 by Sir Rufane Donkin, acting governor of the Cape Colony, in honor of his wife. The park where the lighthouse is situated is also the site of a stone pyramid erected in her memory.

The friendly city

by morne

I was invited by a friend to travel with her to Port Elizabeth and then fly back home as she was going further and I did not have more free time. We set off from CT early in the morning and took the N2 north. It was a lovely morning and we were really enjoying each other's company. Unfortunately there were lots of road works along the way and we only got to PE at 18h05. We booked into the hotel and then set out to explore the friendly city. We went down to the Waterfront area and much to our digust all the shops and restaurants were closed. The casino was open so we ventured in and decided to have supper at their restaurant. At 21h00 the lights went off but fortunately came back on after 5 min's. By this time my friend was in stiches with laughter. She use to live in PE and told me all along the way that at 22h00 someone put the city lights off, so when this happened she just cracked. They had been experiencing power failures all day long, hence all the shop/restaurant closures.
Need I say more?
