November is late spring and it sometimes can be quite hot already. You won't be able to fly directly to PE. You will have to connect either in Cape Town or Johannesburg. Look at SAA's website. www.flysaa.com. From Cape town or JHB you can try one of the internal airlines like kulula. www.kulula.com.

I looked at the South African Airways site and they fly from Miami to Port Elizabeth with a couple of stops. The price one way is $1041 US. Try googling for cheap flights.

You can read a lot about the Port Elizabeth area on the VT site. Lots of members have posted their pictures and tips. Jennflower is a good one.

That's not a bad price for SAA. they can be very expensive sometimes.

For 'things to do', check our fellow members VT pages re the area. They will have all the answers in their tips :)

Re the flight, I agree with Anita - SAA are always one of the most expensive international carriers in my experience, but a couple times a year they have phenomenal discounts, so best to look out for them. Virgin is another possibility.

Travel Tips for Port Elizabeth

OCEANARIUM

by PEE-WEE

Regarded as one of Port Elizabeth’s major attractions, the popular dolphin and seal performances take place at 11h00 and 15h00 daily. Exhibits within the Oceanarium include an underwater observation area in the aquarium, a dolphin research centre, various smaller tanks of 40 different species of bony fish as well as two larger tanks which display sharks and stingrays. Apart from the Oceanarium, the Port Elizabeth Museum Complex also comprises the Museum, Snakepark and Tropical House. (Interesting specialist behind the scene tours may be arranged.)

PORT ELIZABETH (PE)

by ValbyDK

Port Elizabeth (short: PE) is situated in the Eastern Cape Province - 770 kilometres east of Cape Town - and is one of the major seaports in South Africa. Back in November 2003, I stayed one week at the Hotel Marine. It was a nice hotel with friendly staff, but on the outskirts of the tourist area and with the smallest pool I have ever seen.

PE was the last stop on my tour of South Africa, and after many exciting experiences in the national parks, I just wanted to relax and get some tan. Most of the time I hang out at the beach and around the Boardwalk, the big entertainment centre with restaurants, bars, casino, and much more… but also managed to squeeze in a couple of guided tours… First a city tour and later a very interesting trip to one of the local townships.

FC Copenhagen (a football club from my hometown) had a football school in PE, and I met a lot of locals wearing their football shirt. This was a good way to start a conversation and people were very friendly - and very interested in football…
