Hi, I will be in P.E. for a few days during the World Cup. I'm just wondering is there a particular area of the city that the bars and pubs, etc. are situated? Like in Cape Town it's around the Long St. area.

You can try the Boardwalk area, it can be quite lively, as well as along Marine drive. The other part is called central, but is abit risky.

OK, thanks Pierre. Is the central area risky as in the general area or are the pubs risky?
It is more he area, although it seems tat there is an effort to clean it up. But, you should find more than enough down at Marine Drive area. I was born and lived in PE, it does not have the night life of Cape Town or Joburg, but a nice friendly city.
Let me know what you like, I can then make some reccomendations. I will go to PE for a match as well.

Port Elizabeth has a large number of stalls and shops all over the city that sells local crafts. The local ppl of this area are very talented and you could fiind quite unique and different things to take home. The pictures I have included are objects made out of wire and beads.
Moving from the lower town up towards Donkin Park one passes these magnificent old houses build on a steep slope.
All those houses are protected today and are an interesting display of architecture when the first settlers landed here.
Teh PE Opera House (1892) is the oldest theatre on the African Continent, as well as the Southern Hemisphere.
It is worth visiting this beautiful building, which is still in use. For upcoming attractions, you can visit the PE Operahouse website.
