SANFORD PARK COUNTRY HOTEL: General Buller stayed here

Unique Quality: First established in 1852, Sanford Park has been hosting guests for some time. Its bucolic location just outside of the small community of Bergville is a great starting value. Rambling gardens, a small bass-filled reservoir, a quaint pub and neighboring tv/reading lounge come along with the rooms - set in an older thatch covered building and a newer hotel block that boasts of better views and bathrooms while losing a little of that period aspect. Most guests sign up for dinner as well as breakfast and the meals are quite plentiful. There is a small conference center on site and that seemed to be a good drawing card for business folks from Gauteng Province when I was there. Did have a bout of food poisoning while here as well so careful of the seafood starters.
