Reasonably priced accommodation in Durban

by JJ1

Hi

Can anyone advise on reasonably priced hotels or B&Bs in Durban, preferably the Musgrave/Berea/Florida Rd area?

Thanks!

One of the friend has stayed in Durban Backpackers last year.. but it is not in the areas you are looking for but if you want you can still have a look.. dormitory is just over a R 100.00 per night... it is in Glenashley area on the beach .. here is the website http://www.durbanbackpackers.com/

Try this website. http://www.sa-venues.com/kwazulunatal-bandb.php
Page down a little and click on the B&B's listed in the areas you're interested in -Berea has 7 B&B's listed & Musgrave lists 1. You can also check hotels by using the sub-menu bar on the right-hand side.
I've used this site several times when visiting SA and have had good luck with it. Have used it for B&B's in CT, Grahamstown, East London, Durban and Jo'burg. We found a fantastic B&B in CT on this site (no stars) but was perfect for R750 a night for the whole place-there were 3 of us, so it really worked out as a bargain.
Good luck hunting for a place.

Travel Tips for Durban

Aahaa what can be said about...

by slimshady

Aahaa what can be said about durban?.
unspoilt beaches and lots of sunshine makes durban and highly sought after holiday destination
having lived here all my life, there is nowhere else that i would wanna be in South Africa. Fondest memory of durbs would have to be the beachfront and the blue lagoon- an hangout for the young and hip.

Surfing

by MikeAtSea

Durban’s beaches are one of the best areas in the world for surfing. Some beaches are protected against shark attacks with nets and a strong surf from the Indian Ocean during most times of the year give optimal surfing conditions.

ZULULAND PHEZULU

VISIT THE OPENAIR CULTURE CENTER OF ZULULAND IN PHEZULU, VALLEY OF 1000 HILLS WITH TRADITIONAL DANCES OF THE ZULUS, ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE AROUND AND ENJOY A TRADITIONAL ROOIBOIS-TEA.
IN NEIGHBOURHOOD YOU ALSO CAN VISIT ASSAGY SAFARI PARK WITH CROCODILS OR THE HOTEL BOB ROY
Against the backdrop of the world famous Valley of 1000 Hills, is the location of the PheZulu (meaning high up) Village. Here at the PheZulu Safari Park, visitors are able to truly feel the rhythm of Africa, by getting an inside look into the Zulu culture and its fascinating lifestyle and rituals. The friendly Gasa Clan, will invite you into their world, which is likely to be a family visit you will never forget.

All kinds of fish and sharks

by cleocat

Ushaka marine world is the place to go. You can buy a ticket just for the aquarium at about R80 per person. It includes many shows like the dolphin show, the penquins feeding etc.
The other option is a combined ticket for the aquarium and the waterworld at about R125 per person. The aquarium is fascinating with sharks and all kinds of fish you can think of.
It is located in a "phantom ship" that creates an amazing setting. An outing for the family for the day.

The Port of Durban

by cokes

The Bay of Natal (Durban Bay) was one of the few natural harbours available along the east coast of southern Africa between Algoa Bay and Delagoa Bay (now Maputo Bay).

The nice thing about the port is that the ships come in and out right infront of you. What a Awesome sight.

The port of Durban operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The entrance channel has a depth of 12.8m from Dart Chatum. The channel width is 122m but the intention is widen the channel by a further 100m commencing in late 2005. During daylight ships are supposedly restricted to 243.8m length with a maximum width of 35m and a draught of 11.9m, or 12.2m according to tide and harbour master's clearance. This is frequently granted and ships up to 270m length are common. Nighttime restrictions are for a ship length of 200m and a beam of 26m, maximum draught of 11.6m. The harbour master has to be consulted for permission for larger vessels.
