The Balmoral is a pleasant, rather old fashioned hotel on the main drag along the Indian Ocean beach. It appeared to be under Indian ownership. It has all the basics of a comfortable middle class hotel. There is a nice restaurant, and a big buffet breakfast is served each morning. Staff were accomodating and helpful. The biggiest drawback is not the hotel, but the city. The crime rate was so high that it was essentially impossible to see anything of the city except by tour bus. The beautiful beach just on the other side of the main drag remained largely unpopulated for the same reason.
A very nice sun porch makes a pleasant place for reading with an ocean view.
