Due to extreme climatic changes the World is experiencing at the moment, trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local, on the day variations.
Most places now are seeing weather conditions well outside the norm.
The information below should be used as a guide only.

Enjoy your holiday.

January.

The Selborne hotel is great...it is on a golf estate, on one of the great golf courses in South Africa.

January is peak season in South Africa,( until about the 20th January) so it is a bit more expensive than usual, but the weather is great...humid yes, a bit of rain yes, but a lot of sunshine as well. To me the perfect time to visit this area would be February or March, so you not far off... Go to www.mweb.co.za , click SA and do any searches that you want, and you will also get the Selborn Golf estates site, and what you see is actual, not a jazzed up version.

Regards

Mike

Travel Tips for Durban

Biltong

by ratherton

Biltong is basically dried meat and is something I remember from my childhood in Zimbabwe. Back then, we only had beef but now there is a whole range of different meats and flavours - beef, game, ostrich, kudu, chilli.

Personally, I still prefer beef but it's worth trying the other types to see which you like the most. If you get hooked on it, it is possible to buy your own biltong maker.

Packing List

by ratcorp

All the essensials. Just take Sun Screen Lotion. The African sun is harsh. Your wont even know your cooked until that evening. Durban has almost everything a person could get elewere in the world. Don't think because its in Africa you have to Take everything with you. Its has HUGE department stores , Electronics shops , food courts....
Photo taken of friend from UK - BASIC SHIRT with LARD .. HAT.. AND Food.. Typical friends...:-)HAHHA Durban can get hot and humid. VERY hot and humid. The Summer months are Nov to Feb , Winters are cool and plesant (you can wear shorts all year round)
Leather jackets and huge windbreakers are never needed (even when its gets cold (COLD in Durban is 20 Degrees ) Make sure you have light clothing , sunglass's and anything else you could think of one might need on a sumer holiday. The Humidity gets to danger point very often. Feels like a sauna . One thing you notice is how stifling hot it is when you climb off the plane. Its hits you HARD. Any special medication should always be carried with you. Durban is more than able to suply you with anything you could think of in the medical department.
Just remember the atatchements (plugs ) for Electric razors and toothbrushs might not be the same , ussaly the hotels cater for you (They suply the adaptors) you just have to ask. Sun, sun ,and more sun , Get geared for taking pictures in the sun , or sometimes overcast days . Any batteries or other equipment can ussaly be bought at the major shopping centers. Durban is not your avarage African city. BUG Spray , sun tan lotion and light clothing. Durban is a BIG city. Most of the development is on the outskirts with the city center been rather dull. Most of the tourist atractions are on the outside of the city (Excepting the beatiful beachs )

CROC PARK -- SNAKES --BIRDS -- BABY CROCS

by LoriPori

The Croc Park also had a lovely pond, teeming with beautiful pink flamingoes.
One section of the Park was dedicated to the raising of baby crocs and there were dozens of them.
In the accompanying photo, Hans is seen with the "Snake Man" showing him a handful of snakes, Ewww.

Caffe Veneto at the Pavilion...

by ratcorp

Caffe Veneto at the Pavilion shopping center (Its were I work) Nice meeting place to see the world go by. You are able to watch , muslims , jews , catholics , arabs , zulu's xhosa and hundreds of other nationalitys mingle and shop . Its rather bizaar.

Picture taken - The Happy Waiters at Cafe Veneto. TIP them and watch em smile :-)
Cool upmarket viby atmosphere. The specials . R9.00 breakfasts . R10.95 Lasagnes .
Covert that and its less than a US dollar.
Ummm Remember to Tip your WAITERS.
Between 10 and 15 % sometimes more depending on service.
