The Cutty Sark hotel is probably one of the better options for accomodation in Scottburgh. That said, don't expect a long list of options of the main-stream tourist.
We stayed here because of the reasonable rate that was offered (dinner, bed and breakfast)and proximity to the beach (walking distance, about 100m through a small garden). With large windows that can open up completely, it's great for a nice view of the main beach and sound of breaking waves.
I would probably hesitate to return as there were just too many little issues that take away from the enjoyment of the stay. Some of them include that the hotel seems to have been renovated VERY long ago. Carpets are stained, furniture is very basic and quite old, painting and ceilings are basic and showing of its age. Our basin was cracked, bath stained, lacking hot water (only luke-warm water) and there was the little issue of tiny red worms in the taps (yes, this was a bit of a passion killer).
In room facilities include TV (SABC1, 2, 3, eTV, Mnet, Super Sport 1, 2 and Cartoon network). The reception of the TV was such that we never bothered to watch though). There is a restaurant and bar in the hotel, a pool outside with a trampoline and some swings for kids to play on.
By far the main reason why you would want to stay here is the awesome view of the sea / beach. Many resorts, hotels and units claim to have a sea view (which they do, but are generally too far from the beach to claim "walking distance"). This is honestly one of them that can claim "walking distance".
Staff is friendly and helpful. Food was plentiful and satisfactory.
