Oudtshoorn

by Rach&Jay

Hi All
Heard of a place called "Cango Wildlife Ranch"
Has anyone been there recently? Can you drive there from Cape Town?
Can you do Cango Caves, Ostrich Farm and Ranch in 1 day?
Any general comments would be greatly appreciated
Also, does anyone know how much it costs for entry but also the "natural encounters" - their webiste doesnt say
Thanks in advance

Hi there

Cango is one of my favorite places in the world. You can view their site (http://www.cango.co.za/) for more info about the facility.

We were there in 2002, and it was great. They're basically like a small zoo (reptiles, mammals, etc), but they have a good size big cat facility along with Cheetahland, where you can actually go in and pet their house cheetahs. Try their Natural Encounters pages for some great experiences: http://www.cango.co.za/experiencethethrill.htm

They are the nicest people, and since we sponsored a cheetah (which was like $200US) they gave us a private tour of the facility, extra time with the cheetahs, and a trip to their breeding facility. There's NOWHERE in the US where you'd get that kind of treatment.

They did have flood problems last year that destroyed part of the property, but I think they've got it fixed up. The website would have more info.

We visited an ostrich farm and Cango in one day, and had time to go to dinner at our hotel. I think we saw the Cango Caves the next day, but you could probably do it all in one day, depending on drive time.

=)

Sorry, I didn't read your post fully. The encounters are probably no more than $20-30US per person, and I remember things being really affordable. I'd email them for the most accurate info.

=)

Travel Tips for Cape Town

Company gardens walkway

by mvtouring

Even though it looked fantastic at night time, all lit up, and some people walking it, I do not think I would recommend it. The only time that it would prob be safe to walk it at night time would be when there is something being offered there.

Spier

by morne

Spier estate just outside Stellenbosch is in my opinion a must on the itenery. They offer so much to the public and their cheetah outreach programme is great. Have dinner at Moyo's. Absolutely fab. See my tip on that.

Century City

by annieruel

One of Cape Town's newest attractions is Century City on the outskirts of the city. It is home to both the thrilling Ratanga Junction theme park and the Canal Walk shopping centre. Ratanga Junction features over 30 attractions, the most exciting being the Cobra roller coaster. There are plenty of tame rides for children and less adventurous adults. The park also has numerous restaurants and bars and a variety of evening entertainment in the grand hall, theatre rooms and cinemas. October 2000 saw the opening of Canal Walk, the largest regional shopping centre in Africa, with a huge range of shops, restaurants, cinemas and a bird conservation area, Intaka Island. Kids of all ages should not miss the MTN ScienCentre in the shopping centre - a fascinating hands-on experience with the latest technology. The Canal Walk Express, a new Holiday Inn hotel has also opened in the complex. Guests can take a boat ride or hire canoes between the Ratanga Junction, Canal Walk, Intaka Island and Canal Walk Express.

Don't miss the fresh seafood and vibey atmosphere!

by Eish about La Perla

This is an Italian Seafood restaurant, with plenty for vegetarians and carnivores. It is a place to celebrate special occasions (we had our 10th anniversary pre-Argus pasta party here) or a place just to celebrate the beauty of ordinary life - no special occasions required (yes, we have had those too at La Perla). It is on the Sea Point promenade, just across the road from the sea. The patio has umbrellas and a wonderful cosmopolitan vibey feel about it. Sitting on the patio, glass of wine in hand (or cappucino, or fish dish) watching the joggers/locals/tourists go past is a lovely way to spend the afternoon. I love the wine list, and the location. The food is superb, and this restaurant has been recognised by the Italian Chamber of Commerce as one of the top Italian restaurants in the WORLD. Yes, world! The price of the dishes is very Cape Town (not more expensive than average but not budget), but it is probably one of the cheaper of the top 20 worldwide.

Touch of Madness

by jo104 about Touch of Madness

This old victorian house has been converted into a very a very happening bar as well as rooms to mellow out in as well as a dining area.

There are a mixture of couches and antique chairs in the rooms, with a fireplace for chilly evenings. The bar staff are extremely helpful being a bit on the flamboyant side but then the place is aptly named a touch of madness.

I enjoyed their homemade beef burger with separate side sauces whilst my friend had the Chicken fillet, both were very generous portions with delicious fat cut chips. We then moved on into the more intimate sitting room to indulge in Kaluha Don Pedro's. The bill came to R176 before tip incl wine.

One of the sitting rooms are designated as smoking.
