More about 79 on Orange
even better the second time
by TripAdvisor Member ScotlandRosie12
This is the second time we have stayed at 79 On Orange and it was every bit as wonderful as we had remembered it. The house is beautifully decorated with a warm friendly atmosphere and just keeps getting better.
Marc and Ivan and all of their staff will go to endless trouble to supply advice, organise taxis and bookings and generally take all the everyday hassles away. By the end of a stay you feel so laid back you could fall over!
Trip number three is already at the planning stage.
Thank you!

What can I say?
From most B&B's you can not expect to get high quality service, that's why it is called a B&B, they provide you a bed and a breakfast and for the rest of the day you're on your own.
After reading their reviews on tripadvisor we decided to stay there our first two nights and then plan our onwards journey. We ended up staying four nights of our 7 nights stay in South Africa, one night in Hermanus, one night in Paarl and one night somewere else (they were fully booked).
Their location is a few minutes drive from all major attractions in town, which makes it an ideal home to go back to after a day of sightseeing in town. And that is exactly what it is, a "home" where a friendly South African lady goes well out of her way to spoil you with everything you like for breakfast. When you order a glass of mineral water in the morning, it can be with a slice of orange, lemon or even with some mint leaves. If your service level is to make even a glass of mineral water something special, then.....
Since we wanted to go whale watching, Shark cage diving, visit a winery in Paarl, go to Boulders Beach (pinguins), ride an austriche, and visit Cape Town intensively we had a lot of planning to do. Marc and Ivan helped us plan our trips, hotel reservations, transfers, restaurants...They certainly take the B&B idea to a higher level!
All three rooms we stayed in were different, yet in the same style. A mixture of art nouveau, classic designs and modern comfort.
They have a wonderful collection of paintings.
People with back problems can be assured of a wonderful matress, sheets and bathroom linnen of excellent quality.
The rooms where clean and the garden is beautifully designed.
Our breakfast outside, looking at the fishes in the small pond and seeing the cats chasing some butterflies really gave that extra touch to our wonderfull stay!
I could have stayed another week!
Awesome Place! I felt comfortable like I was in my own home!

First off the accomodations are fantastic. Each Bedroom has a bathroom suite and mine had a door to a beautiful outdoor patio area. It is a very cool house with great decorating a lot of custom art. The home is situated right below Tabletop Mountain and has views of the downtown and waterfront areas. Marc and Ivan are the proprietors and they are super hosts that literally make you feel like you are part of their home. Whether it be a ride to Camps Bay, a glass of wine in the evening just hanging out, or a superb breakfast on the patio, the overall experience was well worth the money. When I got my bill I could not believe the amount...Let's just say I was shocked in a good way. It was a 5 star experience at a 2 star price.
I highly Recommend staying at 79 On Orange
A Wonderful Way to Experience Cape Town
by TripAdvisor Member LMacleod
We stayed at 79 on Orange for 4 nights, including Christmas Eve and had a lovely visit.
Staying at 79 on Orange is different from staying in just another inn or B&B - because it is the owners' home. And Marc and Ivan talk about the inn as a way to have friends in their home (vs. just customers). It's a pretty unique experience, to be sure.
The staff is just incredible - Katherine, Clifton, Phumla and the other ladies in the kitchen are all singularly focused on making sure that your stay is a good one.
Each of the rooms is clean and modern (with fabulous marble bathrooms and lovely little patios). The breakfast is wonderful (not to mention the fabulous red kitchen... but that's just another piece of art - have I mentioned the art?!).
The neighborhood is a bit out of the fray of the waterfront and other central areas of Cape Town, which makes for a peaceful experience. With beautiful views of Table Mountain from the outdoor patio/garden, it is a great way to enjoy a lovely city.
We were dogged by the illustrious Cape Town weather and were unable to make it to the top of Table Mountain. Which just means we'll be back... And when we go back we will certainly stay at 79 on Orange.
79 on Orange is delightful

I can highly recommend 79 on Orange. It is a B&B with style.
Initially I was a bit disconcerted by its location. It seemed too residential. However, once we hired a car (organised promptly by Marc) I realised that its position is ideal. There is no reason to be at the Waterfront; which is extremely busy and commercial. 79 on Orange is a 7 minute drive to everywhere, including our favourite Camps Bay.
The breakfasts were delicious (the best of our entire holiday); the beds were divine and really nothing was too much trouble. I'd be back in a heartbeat.
What a fabulous stay!

Stayed 2 fabulous nights here... booked late so we couldn't stay the entire trip, which was a shame. On arrival Ivan met us with a bottle of wine. The room was quiet, air conditioned, and beautiful. The bed was extremely comfortable. They recommended and then booked our tours and dinners, and everything worked out perfectly! We highly recommend 79 on Orange... but book early!!!
wonderful ambiance

We stayed at 79 on Orange for 4 nights and loved it. It's an amazing little place which is beautifully arranged, with lots of artwork and elegant furniture. Bathrooms are very nice, light and clean. Some of the rooms have a stunning view on table mountain.
Breakfast is generous and of fantastic quality - with a variety of dishes every day. Staff is very friendly.
Heart of the place are the owners Marc and Ivan who couldn't care more about their guests.
We highly recommend the place. Best accomodation for us in two weeks in South Africa.
A Golden Opportunity

The folks at 79 made our stay the most memorable of the many we have had on our travels! They help they gave us throughout our stay just made everything so easy and the quality of the accommodation and food was just outstanding! They made us feel as though we were part of your family!
Absolutely fabulous - merely saying thanks seems inadequate!
Excellent in every way

Our experience in South Africa is that B&B/Guest Houses are often far superior to Hotels and 79 on Orange is no exception. From our welcome to departure, Marc, Ivan and their team met our every whim! Service far exceeded that which we have experienced elsewhere. The team were on hand to advise on the best routes to see the sights, best times to go to the more popular destinations and even made restaurant recommendations and bookings on our behalf. Their hospitality and thoughtfulness made our stay very special and made us feel like welcome and privileged guests in their beautiful sanctuary. The wine on arrival, the bedtime port and the pre-breakfast tea in bed were only a few of the treats provided graciously by the team. With plentiful parking and positioned within a short drive/taxi ride from the key highlights in Cape Town, I would highly recommend 79 on Orange.
A Home from Home!

I (along with mum, dad, aunty & cousin Alex!) have just returned from a 5 day stay at 79 on orange and am already saving to go back! A real home from home. You are made to feel like part of the family as soon as you step through the door. The house is beautiful, the view fantastic, the food fabulous and people and pets are the icing on the cake! I loved it, loved it, loved it-as simple as that!

packing and Capetown Jazz Festivl
by samjasper
Hi folks! My husband I will be in Capetown the end of March. We hope to attend the Jazz Festival. Any pointers? Also what type of clothing should we bring for the weather, etc. We are in our mid 50's. Thanks much.

MArch/ April is very nice. Days are normally hot and the wind can be a bit cold at night and at Cape Point and Table Mountain there are always some wind.
I'm in Johannesburg, we are only 3 days aways from autumn and it is still incredibly hot. So be prepared for anything. Enjoy Cape town.

Feb march are really warm months- pack summer- (light clothing, t shirts and shorts and light trousers) but bring a windbreaker and some sweaters in case it gets chilly. No pointers on the jazz festival although I now its very popular. have fun and remember- if you need something you can always buy it here- plenty of shops with everything!
