Cape Town Hotels

Stayed in this little friendly hotel just before.moving to Cape Town. Reminded me an old Victorian hotel, with one little cable lift, but the room was comfortable and clean. Situated in Long street, it has a vibey atmosphere, not far from The Waterfront, The centre of the city and many other places of interest. A good place to have a couple of 'sleeps'. Breakfast was good!

Outside this little hotel, one finds oneself in the heart of Cape Town. Lots of little intersting shops around; hostels, backpackers and of course , there are the jazz clubs if you want to enjoy life........In true Cape Town style!! To my knowledge this little hotel has now been upgraded to the Metropole Boutique Hotel. More upmarket than before!

@ Agulhas Country Lodge

This is the place to be when you are in search for that peace and tranquility that we are all searching from time to time. The lodge is both warm in hospitality and friendliness. My favourite here is a dessert called a "Chocolate Mud pie" with a hot cup of coffee! Absolutely divine!!

During the winter months, with the warm fireplace going all day long, this little lodge is the best place to be! The view of the sea and the mountain behind it, is spectacular! I have written more on the things you can do in Cape Agulhas on my "Off the beaten Path" section.

Do not be fooled by the website: www.safarinow.com. Initially I was thinking that it was all about safari travel, until I opened it, and was amazed at all the specials and information I gathered on this excellent South African website. It has all the info for any traveller who wishes to visit South Africa or any South African who wishes to take a break. It provides the traveller with map info's, special deals for all. Great for a good breakfast!

Newlands Hotel is one of my favourite hotels. The location is great for all sports lovers, because of it's location. The Newlands sportsground is nearby. Now named Sahara Park Newlands. i.e. within walking distance. So, if you like cricket, soccer, rugby... This is the place to stay! Besides all that, one of Cape town's main shopping areas, called Cavindish square is also within walking distance. Resturaunts, cofee shops, bookshops are all in this centre. Also, movie houses and much more!

The staff is friendly, easy going and very hopitable. If you don't feel up to having hotel food, there are great pubs and steak houses very nearby. Great mountain views in sight if you are lucky enough to find a room on the top floors. A great hotel to be staying when visiting Cape Town.

A friendly smile outside the
old entrance.

Lately I paid this marvelous hotel a visit for a light lunch and was not disappointed. Of course, I did not expect to see the most tranquil surroundings in the courtyard of the hotel. It was almost unbelievable to think that the beautiful, and peaceful surroundings could almost be hidden in the courtyard. For any tourist who can afford to stay here, you certainly will love your stay! Or simply visit the The Vineyard Hotel for tea, lunch or just pamper yourself at the spa. You will not regret it!

This hotel boasts one of the finest spa facilities, a garden which looks more or less like a hidden park. Friendly staff, and most of all it is situated in one of Cape Town's most beautiful areas. The mountain views are spectacular!

Formula 1 hotels can be found countrywide and offer a cheap alternative to the cash strapped traveller. The rooms are small but reasonably kitted out sleeping up to 3 with colour television and en suite shower / toilet "cubicle". Breaskfasts are the only meals available but the hotels are ususlly situated near restaurants.

Houw hoek inn is the oldest functional inn in South Africa. This beautiful old hotel is situated near Grabouw. .Most of the ground floor dates from 1779. Gracious old oaks, flanked by towering poplars, and one of the biggest blue gum trees in South Africa, spreads it's sheltering branches over the historic Inn. The upper story was added in 1860 and since then the Inn has been progressively extended. The adjoining old farm buildings have been converted into dining rooms and conference rooms, retaining their original character. The Houw Hoek Inn offers you traditional Sunday lunches, Saturday night dinner dances, full seminar and conference facilities, and is an ideal venue for private functions.

The gorgeous view from the
apartment

Of all the times I have been to Cape Town, this time I picked THE place to stay. Its called African Sunset. Its a self catering apartment with the most amazing views ever. It is a 3-bedroom apartment and had 3 bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen for the nights you just want to sit back with a glass of wine taking in the view having canapes. The apartment also features a gorgeous open plan living room/kitchen/dining room, and a very large and airy patio.

There is a view to die for, the furnishings in the apartment are to a high quality, and that made our stay exceedingly enjoyable. The location is fantastic, being only a 5-6 minute walk from Camps Bay Beach, and all the great restaurants and bars there are on offer. Right in front of the apartment there is also a small beach that is available for use too the tenants. Did I also mention that there is a gorgeous view??

You won't find another hotel this close to the waterfront offering rates so low.

Built in a converted 19th-century prison on Portswood Ridge, the Breakwater certainly won't win any awards for charm or coziness. Its history is quite evident in the long, narrow corridors, which lead to tiny, sparsely furnished cells (sorry, rooms). Nevertheless, the rooms are clean and have TVs, phones, and tea- and coffeemakers.
