Tipping
by mvtouring
When dining out, check that service charge has not already been added to your bill. If not you should add between 10 - 20% of total bill as a tip. Taxi drivers usually get about 10% of the fare, porters up to R10 per bag and pump attendents at filling stations around R5. Unofficial car guards you give around R5 depending on how long they looked after your car.
Whale watching
by ssloane
They say Hermanus is the place to go to watch whales... the weather's got to be just right for them to come in to the bay though... the day I was there there weren't any but it is a beautiful village. They say if you've got a house in Hermanus you've made it!!!
Changing cash

Changing cash in Cape Town.
Money can be changed at any commercial bank and opening hours are from 9am til 3.30pm during the week and large banks open on Saturday mornings too.Remember to keep the reciepts you are given when changing money as you need to show them to convert them into rand when you leave.
Absolutely MUST do
by COLJEANH about Quay Four
Quay Four is situated on the V & A Waterfront, in the heart of Cape Town.
We were extremely lucky with the weather, as it was more than warm enough to sit outside. The food was superb!
They have a live "one man" band, - he plays the older pop songs, which I found really enjoyable.
Sitting outside with the lights twinkling like a fairyland and glistening on the dark water, with seagulls flying overhead, was a truly sublime experience! I had the seafood platter for one - and got a taste of everything, prawns, calamari, mussels, line fish. It was superbly cooked and our waitress Melinda was a delight.
The best Waterfront option
by AndreSTGT about Balducci's
This ultra-chic and trendy café-ristorante-sushi bar at the V&A Waterfront is the perfect place for a relaxed afternoon snack. Impeccable service, comfortable chairs and a great location for people-watching, what else do you need? And don't worry, it might be uber-chic, but the prices are more than reasonable. Delicious Japanese Seafood-Sashimi salad (44 Rand).
Very good beef carpaccio (44 R), and last but not least the best strawberry milkshake i've ever had.
