The Cape Grace in Cape Town.
Beautiful five star hotel. The rooms are very spacious and have huge bathrooms. The staff is excellent and give you very personalized service. Mandiya at the concierge desk always gave us great travel advice.

Rooms are very nice, and service is spendid. However, the hotel is simply too expensive.
This is Cape Town's most elegant hotel, superbly situated on its own Quay at the V&A waterfront with wonderful views of table mountain and the harbour complete with playful seals! It was rated Worlds Best Hotel by Conde Naste a few years ago. Regularly hosts celebrities that like the seclusion that it provides. It has a great whisky bar and an excellent restuarant too. The waterfront is only a few minutes walk away and they offer complimentary chaffeured lifts to nearby attractions. I can not rate this place higher.
Unique Quality: What really sets the hotel apart is the level of service that does not fail to impress! They really look after kids too and even have entertainment activities for them, very refreshing compared to some other stuffy establishments.
The Cape Grace is the place to stay when you have lots of money. The rooms are lovely and big and the location is just great as you are in the waterfront and close to most of the must see things in Cape Town
Unique Quality: Dinner with your best friend is the best here
I havn't stayed here but it's Bill & Hillary Clinton's favourite Cape Town Hotel.
$300+ (U.S.)
Unique Quality: This hotel has the best service of any hotel in the world - and for me that covers a lot of hotels! It's friendly, informal, but dignified. They have a fleet of BMW's to take you wherever you want to go. The nautical-themed bar features some 150 single malt scotch wiskeys and is a local favorite.

Stayed at the Cape Grace for 3 nights at the start of a three week holiday in South Africa and couldn't fault anything about the experience. The hotel is fantastic, beautifully clean and presented right by the waterfront in Cape Town. The ameneties provided were great and the food at breakfast and lunch perfect (we never got a chance to eat in the hotel restaurant in the evening as had already arranged to go to various restaurants in the town). Rooms were great - we had a rooftop room looking onto table mountain so the view was superb. The most amazing thing about the hotel though has to be the staff - simply superb. They cannot do enough for you, from arranging the complimentary limo service around the area, to booking tours and lunches for you - all the time providing absolutely great recommendations so you are not disappointed. In particular, as we had arranged bookings at restaurants throughout South Africa on one night in Cape Town they struggled to find our booking and so as a precaution we asked the Cape Grace receptionist to speak to the restaurant in Franschoek to confirm. When we found out they did not have our booking there she took control of the whole situation - including telephoning the hotel we were staying at the next night to try and resolve with them. I believe this is far over and above what is required of them given that this restaurant wasn't even in their region or booked by them. The beauty of the place and the positive and helpful attitude of the staff helped to contribute to an excellent start to the holiday.
We are critical guests - as one should be when paying & staying in 5 star hotels. We spend our lives travelling and constantly compare top hotels. For years we have stayed at The Table Bay - approx. 20 nights a year - but on this occassion decided to try the Cape Grace. This is a good hotel, no two ways about it however it lacks grandeur, elegance and the WOW factor. Everything its competitor, The Table Bay, has. We stayed in Room 404, top floor, mountain view (make sure you request this). Rooms are half the size of the Table Bay, bathrooms are a third of the size. The hotel for some reason (design flaw?) lacks openess, light and really takes little advantage of its location and the views. The outside terrace and pool seem to be in the shade most of the day. Breakfast buffet is a quarter the size of the Table Bay, the quality is the same and service is slow in both establishments but that is Cape Town in general. If you are a visitor to Cape Town and want the WOW view and feeling, Table Bay Hotel (request mountain view) is the way to go. Its also more family friendly. If you want discreet, hidden, a little further walk to the shops and a little (too) old world in design, Cape Grace is good but boy you really pay for it. And its hard to explain the difference in cost.
This has to be one of the finest hotels I have stayed in. The position on the waterfront overlooking the harbour, the decor the food but above everything else Nigel the manager has trained his staff to perfection. Not only are they highly professional in the execution of their duties they do it with a bright and cheery manner. Anything you ask for is carried out effortlessly.
How do I know the managers name was Nigel?..He made a point of intruducing himself to all guests either in the lobby or at breakfast. He led his team by example and I guess his staff love him for it. Don't think about staying anywhere else when visiting Capetown
On the way to the Cape Grace hotel from Cape Town Airport the taxi driver told us that this hotel "was not a proper 5* Hotel" and that given the price we "may as well have stayed at the Table Bay Hotel". He put its popularity down to the fact that the Clintons stayed there some time ago. However, we loved this hotel. The service was impeccable without being stuffy and the staff were warm and friendly (which was important given we were travelling with our young son). The rooms were very nice (the only criticism we can muster is that that the shower was a bit weak!). Best of all was the restaurant which served fantastic food. If you go you MUST try out their desserts.

I am in the process of booking a family tour through Adventures with Disney for 10 days to South Africa - Cape Town, Kapama Private Animal Reserve near Kruger National Park, Johannesburg and a few other "tourist" attractions.
My concern is regarding the safety for my family including myself, husband and 9 year old daughter. I have read numerous articles about the "smash & grab" robberies and muggings. Does anyone have experience touring with a group? Is it relatively safe? How about the airports? We will be met at the airport by an Adventure by Disney driver and transported to the Cape Grace Hotel in Cape Town where we will meet up with the other travelers in our group.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Sorry I don't know anything about the tour company but I think your biggest problem could be just alloting 10 days for the trip. You are covering a large area and there is lots to see.
Diane is right - that is a lot of territory to cover in 10 days. Unfortunately, with regards to crime, it is undeniably a problem in South Africa. Violent crime is a daily fact of life for most South Africans. A simple glance at any of the major online SA newspapers will prove this.
My advice is to research crime prevention strategies to minimise your chance of falling victim to crime. Obvious ones include not displaying valuables, being aware of surroundings, letting locals know where you are going and expected time of arrival etc.
The above is not meant to scare you - obviously there are thousands of visitors to South Africa every year who have a fantastic time, but at the same token it would be dishonest to gloss over reality.
Hope this gives some perspective.
