Lovely and relaxing, staff so friendly.

    by

We booked a room the Cape Heritage Hotel after researching several Hotels in Cape Town. It seemed to fit our requirements.
In fact it exceeded our expectations.
Prior to arrival in Cape Town all our e-mails and questions were answered promptly and comprehensively.
The hotel even arranged a private pickup and drop off for us from the Airport by Daryl of Russol Luxury Cars and also an exellent private guided tour of the Cape Peninsula by Amber Tours which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Both these extras were kindly billed to our room by the Hotel.

Check in was a breeze with cheerful and friendly staff, all sorted in a relaxed minute or two. It was more like visiting family friends than a Hotel reception.
The room was one of fifteen in what is now called a boutique Hotel, tastefully decorated and really comfortable furnishings with lovely facilities. We knew we were in for a really relaxing stay.

The staff were a gold mine of local info and advice. Nick the owner and his team couldn't do enough to make you feel at home. A real plus was the fact that the Hotel is on the same courtyard as several lovely restaurants, we were spolied for choice all within 20 steps of the Cape Heritage door. There were 2 comfortable Lounges at the front of the Hotel, one with a roaring log fire and the other with complimentary ice cold drinks. These were great for relaxing and reading. There was also great attention to detail, fresh flowers in the room, a nightly turn down service with sweet treats on the pillows, free DVD library for a rainy afternoon and lots more. Breakfast was either an English Fry Up cooked to order or a healthy Continental served buffet style. Either one set you up for the day.
Check out was as smooth and informal as check in and just as quick.
All in all, an exellent Hotel with great staff and lovely facilities, we'll be staying there again.

Unique Quality: The Hotel is set in one side of Heritage Square, an ambitious refurbishment project housing several restaurants lining a charming courtyard. All these establishments are thoroughly modern yet manage to keep an exterior of a bygone age.

Cape Heritage has an arrangement with the lovely restaurants in Heritage Square where guests can have their bills totalled to thir room. A great idea.

The staff make you feel like you're visiting a relatives house in the town. So frindly and helpful with everything.

The unique decor of each room was of an age gone by but all the modern conveniences were there and easily accessible ( TV / DVD player behind doors of huge wooden wardrobe ).

Directions: In the City Bowl, on Heritage Square.

    A wonderful hotel.
The staff are very helpful especially Nick & his team. Will help you with any queries you have.
The hotel is located in the city centre. So you can get around quite easily.
Would recommend it if you want to get away from the big chains and want personal treatment. Where everyone knows your name and remembers what you like.

Unique Quality: The hotel only has 15 rooms. And each room is individually designed. And it is part of the Heritage Square. So you have restaurants on your doorsteps. And if you want you can charge your bills to your room.

Directions: City Centre not too far from the main streets.

More about Cape Heritage

Cape Heritage Hotel is wonderful!!!

by TripAdvisor Member Lionessj

We have recently returned from a 2 week visit to South Africa and spent over a week of that time in Cape Town at the Cape Heritage hotel. We had one of the best experiences we have ever had at a hotel. From the moment we entered the hotel to the last minute when we had to say 'goodbye' to the staff, everyone was warm, welcoming, helpful and incredibly friendly. The breakfasts were plentiful and the staff made whatever you wanted. They even made us two capuccinos every morning so that we could relax and linger over breakfast in the library with a warm fire. Whenever we needed anything, the staff was always helpful, approachable and did whatever they could do to make us comfortable. Our room was charming and every effort was made to make it cozy and nicer--even adding some beautiful carpets when we were there. There were beautiful old prints on the walls of Cape Town. Whenever we left to go on an excursion to return to the hotel, we felt like we were coming home. We would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return one day soon since it is one of the most special places we have ever been to. The location was also ideal since it was so central and there were exceptional restaurants just around the corner. We loved it!!!!

Fabulous Cape Heritage Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member banner4

We stayed four nights at the Cape Heritage Hotel in late September. Arriving after 24 hours in airplanes from San Diego Via London, we were greeted at the airport by Ernst--arranged by the hotel--and had an informative drive into City Center. Upon our early morning arrival we were greeted by offers of breakfast and coffee. We waited about 90 minutes for our room to be ready, relaxing in one of the hotels two very charming and comfortable sitting rooms, where soda, bottled water and beers are available on a sideboard. Very interesting art and decoration in both rooms.

We booked a luxury room -- it was huge, with large, triple glazed windows, hardwood floors, brick walls and very high ceilings. Very light and airy--a comfortable four poster bed with great linen. Also had a sofa and two chairs--TV with DVD player--and a selection of DVDs to choose from at reception. Huge bathroom and terrific water pressure in the shower--a treat especially in historic hotels. The air conditioning was perfect and, despite being over a wine bar, the room was very quiet.

Heritage square boasts a number of restaurants, including the fabulous Le Caveau--wonderful South African and other wines by the glass and bottle and light, well prepared meals. This was our spot -- we could get a glass of wine in the evening and take it to the courtyard. Savoy Cabbage is grand-- and a late night hamburger at Fat Albert's was perfect.

While the physical attributes of the hotel and square are delightful, it is the staff who make staying here a memorable experience--from our first contact with Nick and Sam via email to the onsite staff--Jodie, Melissa and others-- we were made to feel welcome and were constatly charmed by all the good humor of all. And we highly recommend Lesley Cox of Amber tours --also recommended by Nick--for a winelands tour and Cape Point tour. It is no wonder that all by one disgruntled reviewer rave about Cape Heritage Hotel. We will indeed return.

Perfect Cape

by TripAdvisor Member Hickory1

My family and I needed a break and Cape Town was the destination of choice.
We had the pleasure of staying at this extraordianry hotel in the heart of Cape Town. The staff and Nick made us feel at home from day one. Nothing was too much trouble and all the tips and advice turned out to be first class. We`ll be back in Cape Town and the Cape Heritage Hotel will be first on our list of places to stay.

This a small hotel with a huge heart and we can highly recommend it to the trully discerning traveller.

Look no further

by TripAdvisor Member MJG2

In your search for a hotel in Cape Town look no further than the Cape Heritage Hotel. It really is our favourite hotel, and our very positive impressions were reinforced on our second visit in September/October 2006. It is not just one or two members of staff but the entire Cape Heritage team that make this such a special place. They provide the friendliest of welcomes and the highest quality of service. Nothing seems too much trouble, and the atmosphere approaches that of a large family home rather than city centre hotel.

In addition to the outstanding service, there are many other aspects of the Cape Heritage that set this hotel apart from the rest - the individual decor of each room, the comfort of the beds, the delicious breakfasts and the proximity of a range of restaurants in the adjacent Cape Heritage Square. All combined to make our stay so memorable.

We also included a 10-day tour of the Western Cape as part of our holiday, and Nick - the owner - and Sam - the manager - could not have been more helpful in planning the route and selecting appropiate venues for stop-overs.

The best hotel I have ever stayed in!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Why visit a luxury chain hotel when you can stay in a luxury boutique hotel?!

This place was the nicest place we have ever stayed in. We had a standard room but it was plenty big enough for the 2 of us. The bed was huge and very comfortable - I slept better here than I do at home! The bathroom was well-equipped with some lovely toiletries. The building itself is full of character - high ceilings, lovely flooring and it is just so welcoming and cosy!

The location was good and we visited 2 of the restaurants (Caveau & Fat Alberts) in the square immediately by the hotel which were great.

Breakfast at the hotel was second to none. Plenty of choice to please continental breakfast people but option for cooked breakfast too (you can pick and choose what you like).

The complimentary drinks in the lounge and the turndown service (ie a free chocolate on the pillow!) is a lovely touch.

The staff were so friendly. Nick the owner was very amusing and knowledgeable and all the staff seemed genuinely interested in us and what we had been up to during the day. They always had smiles on their faces.

The price I thought was very reasonable for the service and quality of stay received in return.

I cannot think of a single fault at this hotel - only annoyance that there isn't a similar property in the UK!!

I would have no hesitation in returning again (once I can afford a flight back to Cape Town!).

Not what we expected

by TripAdvisor Member Traveller4101

Not bad exactly, but not what we expected after viewing other reviews as well as the hotel's web site. "Historic square" is bounded by busy streets--nothing cozy about it. Our room lacked all charm and character--was a bit shabby and musty, doorknob was loose and required all manner of jiggling in order for key to actually work. Bar downstairs was extremely noisy well into the night--we understand a little noise, but it sounded as if the band had set up at the foot of our bed. Breakfast ranked well below that of any other place we stayed in South Africa. However, must say that the staff was excellent--friendly, approachable, extremely professional.

The warmest welcome in Cape Town

by TripAdvisor Member GS_Wanstead

My wife and I stayed here in September 2006 on a visit from London. I have never stayed anywhere where the staff have made me feel so welcome, they seemed genuinely to care. You couldn't wish for a better location with very good restaurants adjacent and the hotel itself is lovely. If you are looking for an alternative to the big chain hotels check out the Cape Heritage. I am looking forward to going back at some time.
