More about Cape Royale

"Royal" stay in the Cape Royale

by TripAdvisor Member Paroollezer

This is more a residence than a hotel, with few public rooms and a smallish reception but all that saved space they used to create very large rooms, all suites. Mine (618) had mountain view (but no view as weather was bad), a living room wirth kitchen and dinner table and the bedroom was near the entrance, with a window to the corridor. Queen size bed with silk sheets and a smallish TV (smaller than in the living room). Bathroom without a bath but a very powerfull rainfall shower, also quite stunning. All gave a feeling of abundant luxury and pricavy. No sounds from other rooms. A minor problem was the complicated TV and DVD player. I could not find out how to play a DVD, but did have music playing from a CD. Large flatscreen, widescreen TV with lots of channels, including free movie channels. Full kitchen with washing machine (!), large fridge and a freezer. After entry I was phoned if I needed the room done. Turned out the sign on the door (not to be disturbed) easily turns round to show you want to have the room done. This should be better. Very good service. I asked for a taxi to the airport and after I said I knew it costs 300 Rand they did not use the more pricey hotel taxi but called a very good other one and it was 260 Rand on the meter. I thought the 1800 degrees restaurant was rather noisy with people as it is cheap, so a lot of locals eat there. So I ordered food from room service as the dining table in the suite is quite a nice place too. Location is great, opposite the new World Cup stadium, and at (safe) walking distance from the Waterfront shopping malls. A very great experience all in all. You get the same room space but less facilities in the new One and Only hotel, but it costs a lot more.
The Cape Royale has a nice rooftop terrace with bar and small pool and a great view to Table Mountain of course. This pool is now to be reached via stairs and an elevaor from 8th to 9th floor, not the same as goes from reception to the floors.
A hotel to cherish !!

Booked this hotel based on other TripAdvsor reviews and the great room rate through booking.com. Very new, very modern, very stylish. Booked a 2 bedroom suite/apartment. Suite/apartment was spacious, clean, stylish and is perfect for long stays as it has a kitchen with all the best modern amenities, 6 seater dining table, lounge and seperate bathrooms. Used the spa for a massage and was very impressed with the beauty and style, masseur and friendly staff. Ideally situated within easy reach of Sea Point, Waterfront, City, Cape Quarter, Highways and perfectly situated for World Cup 2010. Highly recommend this hotel for all travellers but especially families

Fabulous hotel with excellent staff

by TripAdvisor Member janrat

Just returned from a 5 night stay at the Cape Royale. The hotel was lovely, rooms very spacious with excellent facilities. The staff were incredibly helpful, booked all our trips with the help of Ryan, the concierge, who even advised us on the sea conditions for our trip over to Robben Island and helped us plan our stay so we could do the day trips with the most favourable weather conditions. We did nt have a car but the hotel car took us to the waterfront a couple of times and when we used taxis they were extremely cheap. We ate in the Noodle bar which was lovely and had room service on a couple of occasions which was excellent and very reasonably priced. Would recommend this hotel to anyone, can t praise it enough.

exceeded expectations

stayed at hotel for 5 nights & the overall standard was excellent. We had a two bedroom appartment which was huge. The resturant was first class. They also ran a courtesy car to the V & A area.

no, no, no

I didn't like. Can't deliver the 5-star-service. Everything is complicated with the staff- you have to ask for everything a couple of times before they get it right.
The breakfast is good, but they torture you with horrible music- I don't like that at all.
I had really trouble with the cleanliness of my room- I complained about dirt in my room and it took them 3 days to sort it out- the manager came to check my room several times and there was always a problem. They just don't deal with it- he tried to explain why the cleaner couldn't clean my room and that the cleaning lady would get in trouble and stuff- sorry, but I am just not interested to hear all that! All I wanted is a clean room to move itto- without hair in the shower and toothpaste marks on the mirror and tomato sauce on the hob- I think it is not too much to ask for!?

They saved money by putting the window shutters in. The winds are strong in Cape Town and the shutters are making huge noises when the wind blows- too loud to sleep!

Cape Royale: Great Hotel and Staff

by TripAdvisor Member itmosnter

We just returned from Cape Town July 3rd from a two week holiday for our son's 13th birthday. This hotel is excellent in location, service, attitude and staff. We had a wonderful and memorable holiday thanks to all the staff but specifically to our concierge Madnee, our private guide Peter, the 1800 degree restaurant staff and the hotel drivers. The hotel car services is a very nice convenience and added value.

Madnee arranged a safari, a shark cage diving, cape point tour, a wine lands, township tour, restaurant dinners and never let us make a bad schedule or wrong selection. They looked after our son to the point of sending hot coco to our room three evenings.

The rooms are excellent in size, comfort and cleanliness. We were so tired some evenings that we cancelled some dinner reservations and opted for room service. Our son loved to stay in and order room service.

decent hotel at price

when you first arrive at the hotel it is very impressive and grand looking.
the small lobby is also very stylish.
the rooms are large and very modern but did not have a bath which for us is not a problem.
we found the staff and service at this hotel excellent
Ryan at the concierge was extremely helpful with bookings of trips and sorting out a any problems we had.
there is a car you can use which will take you anywhere within a 5 km radius which is a great benefit to get you to and from the waterfront in the evening free of charge.
there is also a very good restaurant at the hotel were they specialise in steaks.
waterfront is 10 Min's walk away but not advisable at night.

there were a couple of things on the negative side though,
the room service menu is very limited and the quality was quite poor considering the restaurant at hotel.after a long day sight seeing sometimes you just want to chill with a nice meal in your room.

the recreation facilities were the worst i have seen at any 5 star hotel.a gym with 4 pieces of equipment, no steam or sauna rooms.very disappointing.
they did say though if the facilities did not meet our requirements they would supply a car and pay for us to go to gym of our choice.

it is windy in cape town some days and the windows howl as they don't seal that great. makes sleeping quite hard.

they area is walkable during the day but we were advised not do so at night by several members of staff.having access to car didn't make this much of an issue though.

although have pointed out a few faults i would possibly return to this hotel as did have a good stay.

Perfect

This hotel was our home away from home for one week. It was also like an extended family for a week (in a good way)
We are a family of six and we booked 2 two bedroom suites. The entire family was impressed with the rooms from our 11 year old twins to our 2 teenagers, to my husband and I. The suites were roomy, nicely decorated and contained everything you would need for both convenience and comfort.
Everything was taken care of with warmth, style and grace - our restaurants reservations and transportation, our sightseeing tours, our special shopping requests, and even our medical needs. Our daughter got very ill, and the staff arranged for a physician to see her. He came to our room three times to assure that she was once again healthy (with an incredibly reasonable bill).
We had to change plans frequently until my daughter was well, and the hotel staff handled everything. They knew us by name and always asked how my daughter was doing. They went above and beyond the expected level of service.
Each department was staffed with very professional people. It was perfect. and I would like to say thank you to everyone at the Cape Royale who made our vacation so special.

Great place

Excellent hotel, 10 minute walk to V&A waterfront, or use the courtesy car free that the hotel provides. All rooms are suites, very well appointed and clean. The staff are very helpful, great service, great food in the restaurant. Small pool on the roof, fabulous views and close to the new stadium that is being biult for the world cup.

Cape Royale a great base for exploring Cape Town

by TripAdvisor Member shess10

My family and I just returned from a four nite stay at Cape Royale. We had a 2 BR suite that was nicely furnished, and updated complete with kitchen and washer/drier. The location is close to the waterfront and across from the new world cup stadium. The staff is super attentive and was always ready to help us. The courtesy car was on call and ready to drop us off or pick us up at the Waterfront.
The roof top pool was nice but a bit too cool and rainy during our visit. A great location for visiting Cape Town.
