Cape Town Accommodation

by ness076

We are looking at staying in Cape Town for about 4 nights. Can anyone suggest a good place for us to stay which is not too expensive, clean comfortable and in a good safe location?

Can anyone tell me if they have stayed at Cape Town Hollow? If so what was it like?

Cape Town Hollow Hotel (4 star) is at a prime address (between the German and Italian consulates, opposite the gardens, museum and planetarium). I've had a coffee at their pavement cafe and I thought it was a nice place with good service in a good, secure location. If you are happy with their rates, go for it. Check that they have secure parking for you though.

Travel Tips for Cape Town

Parking Attendants

by mke1963

The much-derided unofficial parking attendants are becoming an increasing nuisance in Cape Town and elsewhere in South Africa. These people make a great show of helping you into a parking space you have found by yourself and then "require" a tip to watch over your car while you are away. Refusal to pay the few rand can have unfortunate consequences for your paintwork! The most enterprising parking attendants have even gone so far as to get hold of very official-looking high-visibility bibs and some even carry night-sticks. Anecdotal evidence suggests that cars regularly get broken into or stolen even after paying your fee.

Gay Capital of South Africa

by cokes

Well I have`nt seen so many gay people and transvestites in South Africa like I`ve seen in Cape Town.

They have a hugh gay party in Cape Town annually when gay people all over the world fly to Cape Town to join in the festivity.

Bargaining and discounts.

by rachel_sun

It is worth bargaining with hotel owners when business is really slow to get your room abit cheaper.Always check to see if they have any special offers on at the time you are thinking of booking etc.
At a local market, bargaining is expected, but do not be too hard as it may offend them,,just bargain lightly and get a small but pleasant discount.I did when i bought my masks and carved african figures at a local market.

Sundowners dream place

by satrat about Tuscany

The position of this restaurant is on victoria road Camps bay. Fabulous sea views and camps bay beach just yards away. People watch from this very upmarket vibey location and have uninterupted sea views from the deck while sipping mind blowing cocktails, my favourite long island ice tea. An ecletic menu to suit just about everyones taste, lovely sea food and great steaks. Watching sunsets from this location is a must..enjoy ;) langoustines are stunning, a sweet big junk of the sea

Vegetarian tips

We didn't have the time to sample any totally vegetarian establishments but we always found suitable dishes wherever we went.

The Spur restaurants are very popular with local people. However there are variations in food standards from branch to branch. Our vegetarian ..... at the branch was nothing more than a very bland potato cake with a few herbs added.

More to follow....
