Mate, Cape Town should be quite pleasant with temps hovering around 20 degrees celsius. Can drop to about 11 or 12 on colder days. Cape Town is known for having four seasons in a day, so plan for long sleeves and trousers in the evening and light layers for the day.
October is a great time to be in Cape Town. With summer approaching, everything turns green and sunshine hours increase. If you have the chance, don't miss the spectacular wild flower shows along the West Coast!
Here’s the deal, we have about 24/5 days we take go on holiday matched with a budget of about $180 per day. My question: what can be acheieved with that budget? Can we plan a “road trip” which ends with 4-5 days in a nice resort?

Johan already told you the weather will be good in CT. Just a small correction. Reunion is not very close to SA. from Cape Town you will have to fly to Jhb, then to either Madagascar or Mauritius and then on to Reunion from there - expensive any way you look at it.
I assume there are two of you? US$ 180 a day for two is quite doable for a road trip staying over in B&B's or guesthouses. Car rental will be ca ZAR 400/day, accomodation ca ZAR 400 as well, leaving you with US$ 80 for food etc, more than enough. Obviously there is cheaper accomodation and car rental should be investigated, the longer you rent the cheaper it will be.

What do guys say about the budget? What do you think a good hotel would charge? What other costs shell I consider? Is taxi's a rip off? Is car rental recommended?

As Anton pointed out, your budget seems to be adequate. For example, a double room in Cape Town lodge accommodation could cost you about $82 per day (see http://www.capecarol.com/index.html). A hire vehicle (depending on what you are after) could be anything from $36 to about $200 (for top of the range) a day.
This will probably exclude fuel though, so keep that in mind. You'll also need a valid international drivers permit.
B&B will probably be a bit cheaper than the example above, so you should be able to do it quite comfortably.
Weather in one week October 2007 - warmest days 25C, coldest days about 18C. Every evening it went cold - you needed a jumper/fleece - with a cool breeze.
On the hill next to the city, there is a cannon. Every day, this cannon goes off at 12pm. (It does not actually shoot anything, but makes the "boom" sound.) It can be heard through most of the central part of the city. I am not sure how this tradition started, but is useful for setting one's watch correct. Occasionally, if there is an important ship in the harbour, it gives a 21-gun salute instead!
As we walked down Platteklip Gorge, I suddenly saw this Himalayan Mountain goat. Apparently there are quite a few of these animals around Table Mountain and expecially around Devil's Peak.
I heard that they broke out of the zoo that used to be at the university. And since then they've lived around Table Mountain.
I was the only one who saw this animal. Everybody else just walked by. So keep your eyes open...
Most open from 8.30 am to around 4.30pm during the week and 8am til noon on Saturdays.Mail deliveries in South Africa are reliable,but slow.International deliveries from South Africa are slow too as there are not many flights to certain countries etc and that holds it all up.
We were not sure what to expect from the Olympia Deli but are B&B hosts had highly recommended it and I had read other good reviews. The place is very casual. You walk in to a large counter and bakery carts out in the open. The tables are wood and very close together. The menu is up on the chalk board. The menu changes based on what is available. Joe ordered pasta with tuna just caught that morning. Be sure to come hungry to the Deli. The plates/portions are HUGE. They are also a bakery so be sure to try the breads- the ciabatta is heavenly. I had this great dish of peppers, pepperdews, breads and cheeses. Joe had the pea soup with ham and the pasta with huge tuna chunks.
While I was too full to try it, they are known for the best cappucino in the city.
Open: Daily 7 am to 9 pm
The blowfish gives fantastic sushi and when it is not high season, they have a special on Wednesday evenings where all sushi 7 sashimi is half price. Oops should I have said that? Just leave a seat for me please. Just be careful your wine can cost you more than your food here! Sushi
