Safari in Cape Town

by joolea

Hi! I'm going to CT in May and really want to do a safari. Can anyone recommend several good ones? I really want the best experience possible, so am hoping for an overnight trip. And the more animals the better! Sadly, I also need something not so pricey. Thanks in advance for any tips!

Sorry to inform you that you cannot do genuine safaris in Cape Town. There are some attempts at offering "safari" experiences near to Cape Town, because of the demand from tourists like you. But they are nothing like the real safaris offered much further north/east in Africa.

Hi, i'm going to Cape Town in May too. I read reviews of some private game reserves around Cape Town and they didnt get very good reviews.

Alternatively, if you have a few days, you could rent a car and drive along the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth & Addo Elephant Park. That is what we are doing. You can also fly to PE from Cape Town. In Addo, you can do a self drive safari or stay at numerous lodges in the area that vary in price.

Here is an example of what tourists could experience on a genuine safari:

You have zero chance of experiencing that within 1000 kilometers of Cape Town. In this area you will not see truly free predators naturally hunting their choice of prey - all lions around here are fed by humans.

I agree with Gerald...The Addo Elephant park is great for Elephant viewing, but your true game parks are in Northern Kwa Zulu natal, and in Gauteng and Limpopo area.

This one pictured I bought in Botswana. It's a good one because I can plug American stuff and European stuff into it. Don't worry if you can't find one where you live. They sell them at the Johannesburg airport.

Bo-Kaap (Malay Quarter)

by cleocat

The old malay quarter or as it is called nowadays the Bo-kaap is worthwile seeing. I've been to Cape town numerous times but never bothered to go and see it. It is basically in the city. Drive on in Wale street to Greenpoint. The area has been upgraded in a lot of places and property prices are rising sharply. it is conveniently located and has a great atmosphere. houses are painted in bright colours. Streets are still cobblestone and narrow, From the top the view over Cape town is amazing.

Capetown has some great...

by ratcorp

Capetown has some great nighlife. Everything , live bands , Huge clubs , Strange clubs , Theater . Weekends , the place never seems to sleep. Some places go on until 9 in the morning
The people..... Everything from Smart casual , to Rave , disco and a few places offer for some real strange tastes.

So friendly it hurts!

by laurey81 about Cafe Manhattan

Cafe Manhattan is very friendly, and right in the middle of De Waterkant, a beautiful and relatively quiet area of Cape Town and magical on a warm evening. It has tables outside, letting you capture the sounds and smells of this wonderful city, and the staff are all great. The food was good, although I wouldn't recommend the snails.....unless you're a fan.
