2 years after our first visit we returned to Ellerman House and were very pleased that nothing had changed. This is still one of the very best hotels.
After a 10 day tour of the Garden Route the plan was for the last three days to be spent at a luxury hotel. Ellerman House exceeded expectations on all counts.
This is a small, but very, very good hotel. In fact it is without doubt the best hotel I have ever stayed in, anywhere. What makes it so good? Well there is:
The level of service. It is a small hotel and the staff take pride in offering personal service with a fine attention to detail.
The location. Situated above Bantry Bay with fine views across to Robben Island. It is about a 20 minute drive to the V&A Waterfront. Also the hotel is sheltered from the winds that can often blow around Table Mountain.
The Rooms. These are large, furnished to the highest standard and spotlessly clean.
The food. Superbly cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner with a good selection of wines to wash your meals down. If you do not see something on the menu that you like then they will try and come up with something that you do.
The “extras”. Not only is your mini bar “free”, but there are also decanters of scotch, sherry and brandy in your room. They also have a little room permanently stocked with sweet and savoury snacks and a well stocked bar. The only drinks you pay for are specific bottles of wine when dining. In room Internet connections are available at no extra cost.
The grounds and pool. Plenty of space on the well groomed lawns with very comfortable sun loungers and a fair sized pool. There is always a good supply of pool towels and a cooler filled with ice and bottles of still and sparkling water.
Of Course all the above does not come cheap, but if you can afford to stay here I would be very surprised if you left feeling that you had not had great value for your money. Beware, this hotel spoils you!
