My best memories.....
by laurey81
The friendliness. You have to be careful in some parts of town but the people are fantastic! Basking with the lizards and dassies on Table Mountain, sipping cocktails on the Victoria and Albert Waterfront, haggling with the traders in Greenmarket Square, wandering around the Castle, chilling out in the evenings at Cafe Manhattan....meeting some wonderful people.
Xhosa courtship and marriage
by Jenniflower
Xhosa men are allowed to have more than one wife. The girls all HAVE to be virgins or else they bring much disgrace on her family. Her father receives a 'labola', a type of payment for her, usually in the form of cattle. If she is not a virgin, he will also get far less labola than were she one. The father also pays a dowry to the inlaws for his daughter for her keep.
Montagu in the winelands
by Joemidwest
Less than two hours out of Cape, the village of Montagu sits on a hot spring. It was voted 2002's most favorite village in South Africa. Winelands, hotsprings, and a friendly village, it's a hard place to go wrong.
Pool Bar
by jo104 about Rolling Stones
Great place for young people to meet and have a few games of pool or just a drink.
This pool hall has about 200 tables and a balcony when you need a breather.
This pool hall is by no means a seedy joint one often associates with pool halls casual
Mexican Food
by Christel21 about Cantina Tequila
Atmosphere is lively. Background music varies from latin to rock and pop and some popular 80s and 90s music. There was a DJ when we visited the restaurant. After our huge meal (we were a big group and it was a table d'hote "eat as much as you like dinner" our group leader/lecturer organized) there were other people ordering from the menu. A great place if your stomach wants food and if you want to have a great night out. EVERYTHING, but I must say, their calamari rings were the best I ever had! yumyum
