Winelands Day Trips

by gullwing17

Does anyone have any recommendations for a 'fun' wine tour departing from Cape Town.

I have looked at Hylton Ross, Cape Escape Tours, Ferdinand Tours and Daytripper, but don't really know how to decide? If anyone has been on any of the tours, what were your thoughts?

Mate, have a look at http://www.winedeskwaterfront.co.za/
I'm pretty sure they'll either have something, or point you in the right direction.
We've mostly done self-drive so we can visit our favourite wineries, such as La Motte, Kanonkop, Alto, Annandale, Thelema, Backsberg, Fairview, Spier and Groot Constantia.
It's a great trip in the most beautiful surroundings.

Wow, there are hundreds of awesome wine farms in Cape Town. I would recommend Durbanville Hills personally. For a tour, rather go for one that stops only a few farms (one or 2 would be the best) because it's nice to hang out and have lunch at them. This site has some good links to that sort of thing: www.explorecapetown.co.za

I didn't go on a planned wine tour, but i can definitly tell you to find one that stops at the Waterford winery, it was my absolute favorite.. so pretty and peaceful.

Travel Tips for Cape Town

Take a boat trip to Robyn...

by Diane_G

Take a boat trip to Robyn Island where Nelson Mandella was imprisoned. Also Table Mountain, but make sure it is a clear day so that you can get the full benefit of the beautiful view. A visit with our rugby tour team organised to Lagoona township for a match. We travelled there in 2 coaches and were greeted by an international rugby referee. (NOT RECOMMEDED TO VENTURE INTO TOWNSHIPS UNLESS A LIKEWISE ORGANISED EVENT). We were sang to by the boys and treated like special guests, (it was very humbling). This was our fondest memory of our tour to South Africa. These children had ambition and were so happy, even though they had so little.

Packing List

by LilleLene

You should bring almost all kind of clothes. The weather in Cape Town can be very unstabil. Make sure to bring some jerseys. You don't really need to bring any of this from home...you can buy it all in Cape Town.

Kirstenbosch protea

by Jenniflower

Proteas are the poster species for fynbos (pronounced faine-boss). They are indigenous evergreen shrubs with large, and beautiful flower heads, highly prized by florists and plant collectors around the world.

The king protea is South Africa's national flower.

Cable Car to Table Mountain

by kentishgirl

Unless you walk up (it's a long way!), then the Cable Car is your only means of getting to the top of Table Mountain and back down again.

The Cable Cars rotate, so you will get some fab piccies - no need to push your way to position as soon as you get in!

The views up there are spectacular.

Awesome African

by didgeridorien about Mama Africa

Where to start? The restaurant looks African, you can buy African art there and there's live African music playing during dinner (but you get billed for it - shame). The food is amazing and we got some free drinks because we had to wait, so that lifted our spirits! I had the mixed grill, which is expensive, but you get meat from crocodile, kudu, ostrich, springbok and sausage.
