cape town me and my son

by idylle

Hiii everyone...

I am planning to visit Cape town with my son which is 8 yrs old. Do you think it would be dangerous for us to be alone? And could you advise me about a national park not far from the city...

Thank you :)

It is not dangerous to have your son with you. The nearest national park is within walking distance from the center of the city - the Table Mountain National Park. It has very few animals but thousands aof different plant types.

At Boulder's Beach there is a penguin reserve that kids love. They can swim within 2 meters of the natural penguins.

Travel Tips for Cape Town

take a scenic drive down south...

by Krystynn

take a scenic drive down south to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope – two separate places in close proximity, for some spectacular scenery! It is here at this place that you find the meeting point of the mighty Indian and Atlantic Oceans!!

Cape Point is indeed one of the greatest landmarks in the world and there could be no better place to have a meeting of two such majestic oceans than here!

P.S. Er.. that's me trying to strike a super-star pose... and battling the STRONG winds simultaneously! Who said being a model is easy??!! Sigh...

Pack a Cellphone!

by DesertRat

If you're from North, Central, or South America, you'll need a tri-band phone because South Africa uses the GSM system. However, if possible, make sure you bring one because they're invaluable for calling taxis and the like. Quite unexpectedly, the cost is incredibly reasonable: I paid 10 rands for a Vodacom SIMM card. Top-up cards to keep it running are not that expensive. Incidentally, if your phone is locked into a particular provider's system, they'll be happy to unlock it for you for a very modest fee!

Paarl

by mvtouring

Paarl is the town where the Afrikaans language was "born". This is also the hometown of KWV, our best known wine exporter and which untill very recently you could not buy in this country as all the wine was exported. An interesting town to visit taking the N1 north approx 72 kilometers away from Cape Town,

Be cautious

by ghajela

Cape Town though is usually safe but it is always recommended to take the official Taxi written on Yellow for transportation. DO NOT take lift or Taxi which are not officially designated. Law and order tend to be loose at night. Always carry your hotel card with you as somtime language can be problem with Taxi driver.

A great dining experience

by kngtut about Ginja

Ginja is the new kid on the block. In a short space of time its has become a definate local fovourite. U need to book well in advance.
You basically pay a set price for either a two course or three course and then you select a starter, main or dessert, depending on your selection. Its all good - try it out for yourself.
