Cramping some style in two days
I'll be in Cape Town for work on Jan 2-4 and thereafter till Jan 7 on my own. I'd like to know how i can cramp the SA experience in those miserable few days. Anyone with ideas?
Also, I've no credit card and would like to know how much cash i should bring for budget travel. Should I bring them in travellers cheques, USD or Rand. Any advise would be good.
I'd be staying at the Holiday Inn Cape Town Waterfront for the first couple of days and would like to find a budget (backpacker's) inn for the next two. Any recommendations?
Anyone want to meet up for a co-joined city trip?

Hi,
Check out the Ashanti. Backpackers' hostels aren't my wife's nor my cup of tea anymore, but if I were 20 years younger, this is where I would stay... They have a web site, so it'll be easy to find with a Google search.

I can recomend the ashanti as well - I checked it out for a few other backpackers a while back and they seem to have all the facilities you'll need.
The Cape Town offers a huge variety of experiences and although not typically "African" in all aspects as stated by Gerald you will enjoy the diverse cultures, sights and sounds the Cape has to offer.
As far as currency is concerned - the SA Rand is presently rated as the best performing currency against the USD but the fluctuations have levelled out in recent weeks. A mix of cash & TC's are my suggestion.

I won't be able to get out of Cape Town, so I guess I'll have to take Glenn's advice to take in whatever I can.
I've emailed Ashanti but it's bounced maybe cuz I sent it from a hotmail account. Will i be able to get accomodation at Ashanti even if I don't make prior reservations? I'd be staying at Holiday Inn Cape Town Waterfront from Jan 2-5 so I would be able to call from there.
How much does one need to get around in Cape Town? How much, for example, is a loaf of bread, cab fare around the city, cost of dinner at a local restaurant? I'd appreciate it if anyone could offer any advice.
