Travel to South Africa

by melissah_blue

Hello everyone! I have a question... My brother is having a vacation in South Africa, Cape Town in September. We are trying to figure out where he could stay for less. Can anybody advise us some nice hotels which offer discounts. Some kind of discounted family packages or anything cheaper than normal.
I will be waiting for your answers,

Melissa

Your brother would probably enjoy staying at one of the many backpackers in Cape Town - and there are MANY. Check out www.coastingafrica.com You can download a free backpackers guide to SA that has many activities and hostels.

Alternatively he can do an internet search for B&B's. There are lots of these around and the hosts are usually friendly and helpful. They can be cheaper (and more comfortable) than hotels.

Stay for less than .............? Answer that and we can make betetr suggestions. The average good quality 3 star hotel will be ca US$ 65/night. A B&B or guest house will be ca US$ 50/night. Then you have backpacker options etc too which will be even cheaper. Otrher side of the spectrum of course will be places where you can pay US$ 1,000/night and up.

Well he would like to stay in a good hotel of course, not a hostel, or a 50$ per night accommodation. He can afford some expenses...we were just figuring out if it is possible to find some special deals featuring from the good hotels.
I hope this makes sense.

Your best bet would be to search the web to see what deals you can get and to look for Bed and Breakfasts. As a single traveler most hotels will include a "single supplement" to the rate which is why I tend to stay at youth hostels. You pay by the room at B&Bs and if he is traveling in the "off" season you will find some good deals. If he is traveling in the high season (Dec - Feb) it will probably be expensive.

Travel Tips for Cape Town

Kirstenbosch - Carols by candlelight

by mvtouring

An annual event happening leading up to Christmas. Everyone goes with their picknick baskets, family, friends, blankets, hot socks etc. You have a lovely picnick with some nice wine and then you have carols by candlelight. A nativity play is done, just an excellent outing

Great White Cage Dive

by GandalfOnTour

This is a must for an diving enthusiast. Coming face to face, or face to fin, as a Great White effortlessly glides by is both a terrifying and an awe-inspiring experience. They truley are gracelful and deadly and being in the same water as them you get the feeling that they are well aware of you being there but they are no interested in youat all, at least thats what I kept telling myself.

I dived with a company called White Shark Ecoventures and found them to be very professional (and they need to be) and sensitive to the plight of the often misunderstood creature of the sea. They poicked me up in Cape Town and we drove out to Gansbaai where we boared their boat and made our way out to 'Shark Alley'. The 4 or 5 hours out on the water were magical and I will do it again in a blink of an eye when I am next in Cape Town Snorkel, mask, wet suit and cage (provided by the company)

Unspoiled

by cleocat

Tietiesbaai is a few km away from Paternoster on a not so nice dirt road.
It forms part of the Cape Columbine nature reserve.

What makes it so special is that it is totally unspoiled. People camp on the beach. There is nothing else except for ablution facilities. Only cold water and no electricity.
Prices vary from R49 per night out of season to R70 per night for up to 6 people. Day visitors pay R9 per day.

The view over the bay is beautiful and there are beautiful big shells on the beach. They are not broken as on many other beaches .

People used to live there for months but these days camping is limited to 8 weeks at the most.

Can go direct to Cape Town

by Martman

Years ago, Cape Town's airport had a tiny itnernational section. Tiny means about 2 international flights per day. Most of the external flights were via Johannesburg. Since then, the city's itnernational terminal has expanded and there are more flights. If you are going to visit Cape Town only, it might pay you to come directly to the city. Only use Johannesburg if it is necessary.

Great seafood in Bloubergstrand

by Kid-A about On The Rocks

This is a great restaurant in Bloubergstrand. Saying "great seafood in Cape Town" is kind of dumb though, because all I ate in Cape Town was seafood and EVERYTHING was good! But we had dinner at this place one night and I was impressed. The restaurant is right on the beach as well. Go there at sunset and you get some great views! :) I had the king klip. Yum!
