The choice for this B&B was easy having received so much helpful information about the place and it's situation in advance and the warm welcome we received from the owner Phil.
Felt immediately at home on arrival.
House is cosy, rooms are of a generous size and well equipped. The veranda is a great place to relax after a long day.
Had full use of all facilities and enjoyed hospitality pure from the host and team. Phil was always available with tips and with any questions we had, even on the mobile.
Generous breakfasts with real attention to detail and fresh local produce.
Location great, nice restaurants in the quiet suburb and just a short walk away from Long Street and the Greenmarket Square area.
Stayed 5 nights.
Thanks for everything!!
Victoria & Anita
Parker Cottage is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed.
The house is lovely and in a great location for visiting Table Mountain, Camps Bay and the City Bowl amongst many other things. There is a nice outdoor terrace where you can have breakfast, a lovely lounge for pre-dinner drinks and nibbles (complimentary) and a large dining room for indoors breakfast if you prefer. We stayed in the twin room which had an ensuite bathroom with a lovely shower.
The breakfast is absolutely delicious and the best we sampled during our trip - inventive fresh fruit dishes (e.g fruit kebabs drizzled in Honey); cereal and toast; cheeses and cold meats and cooked breakfast - we tried all of these and more!
But, above all, what makes this one of the nicest places to stay is the warm and relaxing atmosphere created by Phil - nothing is ever too much trouble. He is what makes the place not just nice, but exceptionally nice. We would definitely go back.
Wonderful place - excellent hospitality!
Parker Cottage is situated in a beautiful old house in which once the mayor of Cape Town lived and which has been tastefully renovated and decorated. Every room looks different and we stayed in room no. 8 which has a fire place, a very comfortable bed and a large bath room with free standing bath tub and separate shower. Parker Cottage is conveniently located near Kloof and Long Street in a quiet street and is also very close to Table Mountain. The hosts Liz & Phil are unbelievably helpful and really nice people! Phil sat down with us over some coffee, introduced us to other guests and gave us recommendations on what to see and do in Cape Town based on what we liked to do. He is what makes this place special and one of the reasons why we enjoyed our stay so much. Breakfast is served on the terrace (much recommended) or in the dining room and is really good - with different kinds of fruit, eggs, sausages, muesli etc. There is a very nice lounge to hang out in and every other night Phil & Liz offer drinks for all guests on the terrace (we didn't join because we had other plans but I'm sure it's very nice, too). Also there is an honesty bar in which you can also cool your own drinks. All in all: the best place on our journey - we will definitely come back!
Home sweet home
Now we are back in Sweden again after travelling for three weeks in South Africa. We took lots of good memories, photos and films with us back home. Our three nights in Parker Cottage is without doubt one of our best memory. The hospitality, Phil´s welcoming and service during the whole stay, all the information we got, the drinks in the afternoon (unexpected and free) and the chat with the other guests was something special when we made our last stop in South Africa. We will never forget Phil´s funny story about his aunt´s dog in the VW. Parker Cottage is a lovely house with nice and lovely decorated bedrooms, nice parlors and dining room for the guests to use and spotlessly clean everywhere. Fresh flowers in the entrance and other rooms made us to feel happy and welcome. The breakfasts with fresh fruit, homemade bread and – you could just order what you like! Situated close to Table Mountain and interesting restaurants – it was perfect for our plans. We strongly recommend this establishment to any Cape Town visitor. We even say: you have to stay there!
We truly enjoyed our two week stay at Parker Cottage with hosts Phil and Liz. Conveniently located and within easy reach of Camps Bay, V&A Waterfront and Table Mountain by taxi, this Victorian guesthouse is like home from home.
Phil and Liz's hospitality was excellent, the breakfasts were indulging and of good quality, and the pre-dinner drinks were a fantastic idea to meet our fellow guests and relish their experiences and recommendations.
Phil was very informative about what to see and do even before we landed in SA. Nothing was too much trouble and our needs were individually catered for.
It is a clean and welcoming establishment with freshly cut flowers placed in the hall entrance and lounge. A gorgeous scent wafts through the entrance adding a personal touch to this already charming residence. Our room was a good size and the bed was extremely comfortable.
When we return to Cape Town, we will definitely look up Parker Cottage.
Beautiful, Convenient and the Best Service!!
The trip was our first trip to South Africa. Cape Town was our first stop. The Parker Cottage and Phil, one of the owners, were able to accommodate us even though our arrival situation changed several times in the matter of hours. We didn't make the overbooked flight that supposed to arrive in CPT at 4.30PM, instead we ended up flying via Amsterdam arriving at about 11PM. We were very relieved seeing Yaseen waiting for us at the airport.
The Parker Cottage is a small beautifully furnished guest house with the character on a quiet street. Very little traffic on Carstens Street even though it is close to downtown, Kloof St. and Long St. We walked everywhere, even to V&A Waterfront. We were a party of 3 (parents and an adult daughter), sometimes a difficult combination, but the Parker Cottage had an ideal accommodation for us, a family room, 2 separate spacious rooms with the bathroom and shower in the little hallway shared only by these 2 rooms. The beds were comfortable and I did not hear any noise during the nights. It also was more affordable than some other properties I contacted.
The wonderful breakfasts were included in the rate. There were lots of choices from the English breakfast made to your order to fruits, cold cuts and cereals. Of course plenty of coffee, teas and juices. You can enjoy your breakfast either on the nice veranda by the front garden or in the dining room. The service was very friendly and expeditious. Phil participated in making the breakfasts as well as serving. Everybody was smiling and very approachable.
We also enjoyed the 6.30PM get-together with Phil and other guests. Phil served South African wines, beer, juices and some snacks, that were all complimentary. It was great to mingle with other guests and hear their stories as well as Phil's and Liz's stories. Phil and Liz had owned the Parker Cottage only 9 weeks and they had very recently opened it again.
There were also the honor bar - a refrigerator, where you can get reasonably priced drinks and leave the money in a jar or pay later to Phil.
Last but not least, the free internet and a laptop for guests' use!!! I found that to be a rarity in South Africa. Nowadays I pretty much look for hotels where the breakfast and internet are included in the room rate.
Still absolutely the best part of staying in the Parker Cottage was Phil. His amazing willingness to be in service, make phone calls, give advice on where to go for dinner or sightseeing. He found for us a great capemalay restaurant after listening to our wishes. He arranged the pick up from the airport, made car rental arrangements, called for a taxi, made reservations, and even called for airlines. He made our stay in Cape Town fabulous!
I hope he has strength to continue at the same level of service.
We will stay in the Parker Cottage again next time we get an opportunity to visit SA.
Thank you Phil and Liz for our wonderful stay, too short though, in Cape Town.
Best, Tramp :)
A Home away from Home
My husband and I stayed at Parker Cottage for 4 nights in january. It is a beautiful, well-maintained Victorian home and it still feels very much like a home. The rooms have been renovated with attention to the details of the period. It is immaculately clean. The sitting rooms are cozy for reading or chatting. The kitchen is open for making tea and coffee at odd times. There is a fridge in the corridor with cold drinks. Our room had a very comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom. I really like the big freestanding bathtub.
Phil works very hard to maintain the high standard of his guest house. He begins the day with a hearty breakfast, freshly cooked and prepared for each guest. In the evening he provides before dinner wine and snacks. The guests have opportunities to talk and share experiences at both of these times. In good weather, it's nice to sit on the front porch to eat. But the dining room is a lovely spot too. The front garden has a pretty fountain and pool which sounds very relaxing. There is free internet access available around the clock. The staff are friendly and helpful.
It is easy to walk to restaurants and shopping from Parker Cottage. Other tourist sites, such as the V. and A. Waterfront, Table Mountain, etc. can be reached quickly and easily by taxi. Phil is very prompt at booking taxis for his guests. He also offers suggestions of restaurants and activities. He's a wealth of information about Capetown and he's always looking for more interesting things to share with his guests.
By the time we left, we felt we were saying goodbye to a good friend. We would definitely recommend Parker Cottage to our friends and anyone visiting Capetown.
One of the family
My husband, daughter and I spent 5 nights in Parker Cottage in January 09. It was my first time in Cape Town and I found the welcome offered by Phil and staff went beyond my expectations. We got terrific advice on where to go, what to do and where to eat. The rooms were beautiful and spotlessly clean, breakfast very substantial and the evening wine tasting a great way to meet the other guests and compare experiences. Parker Cottage is ideally suited for exploring Cape town,a short taxi ride from the Waterfront and within walking distance of several excellent restaurants. We'll be back!
