We will be staying at Protea President Hotel in Capetown

By private car or public transportation

45km

Nearest rail station to Boulder's beach is 3km, but trains can be unsafe.

If you hire a car, there is lots more you can see en-route.

Boulders Beach can be reached by train- the nearest station is Simonstown, on the False Bay coast. Its quite a long trip from th city, but fairly scenic.
Car drive is also lovely, passing many seaside villages and suburbs. My Cape Town page has more info on the Boulders Penguin community.
It may be possible to arrange a 'mini tour' at your hotel travel desk.

HI, The hotel is about 30km from Boulders beach and the best way to travel is to hire your own car. The routes all around CT is very easy and ask any person the directions to Simonstown.

When you get to Boulders beach, you can walk the distances at your own pace and it is all contained in one area. Hiring a taxi or any other transport is parting with your money for NO reason whatsoever as you can rent a car and do it all yourself at a realistic rate.
The Penguins are all concentrated in the Boulders area.
Hapy visit and welcome.

Travel Tips for Cape Town

Cape Town Tip

by greentara

Don't you just love sitting on the beach after a hot day feeling the wind and watching the sun sink slowly behind the ocean.
My favorite beach was camps bay, lots of bars right across the street and great fish restaurants.

The sun is harsh

I suggest you bring an empty suitcase as you will find the clothing here very cheap If you are going to do some walking or hiking in the mountains, please bring some decent shoes. If you are going to Mapumalanga or Kwazulu Natal then check before departure if you need malaria medication. Do not forget to pack your sunfactors 6 - 30 especially for the faces and also do not forget your sunhat

Swim with the jackass penguins...

by Ramonq

Swim with the jackass penguins at Boulders beach in Simon Town on the way to Cape of Good Hope. They're very friendly little creatures and not at all afraid of humans. Not really off the beaten path, lots of local families go here to swim. Most tourists just have a look but do not swim with the penguins.

Outdoor Theatre

Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts

During the summer (December to March), many South Africans head to the Kirstenbosh Botanical Gardens for its summer concert series. Grab a blanket, a bottle of wine and some picnic food and chill out to the sounds of big band, the Cape Town Philharmonic, the Cape Town Opera, or a funkier Afro-Jazz band such as Sons of Trout. Free.

Loud and Tasty

by southafrica about Mama Africa

This is a happening loud african restaurant that has a live african band drumming, singing, and a generally cool time....don't expect this to be a quiet evening !!! Any of the local dishes especially meat are always good, I'm a veggie so can't comment on the meaty stuff but all the dishes are hearty !!!
