Loved the view

We had a fantastic stay at the Ritz hotel, Cape Town. We could not believe the rate was so low even on New Year's Eve. Taking a Trip Advisor reviewer's advice we asked for a high floor and was given a room on the 18th, great for watching the sunset. We even had a sea view! The decor was a bit tired but everything was spotlessly clean. A lovely walk to the waterfront shops and restaurant along the sea front. This hotel is the best deal in Cape Town.
What a View!!

We booked a three night stay at this hotel as it appeared to be good value and well located. We were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived the staff attended to our every need, handling the cases and arranging parking for our rental car. The room was on the 15th floor and had a wonderful double aspect view of the ocean and shoreline. The room was clean, but the decor was plain and the bathroom needed a makeover. However, it was comfortable and everything worked. Each evening we dined in the revolving restaurant, this was the highlight. The food was excellent, as was the service and of course the view. The V & A Waterfront is a short distance away and can be reached by car or a very pleasant walk along the front. The 1st floor restaurant offers a wide ranging buffet breakfast and the terrace bar is comfortable for an afternoon/evening drink. We would recommend this hotel and would like to thank the staff for making our stay a pleasure.

Difficult to rate this one! Stayed here twice in February 2007 at beginning and end of Cape tour. I can't honestly say it would be the kind of hotel I would have chosen for myself, but it was OK.
The building itself is spectacularly ugly from the outside. But inside public areas were generally in good decorative order and well maintained. Staff were friendly.
Decor and furnishings in both rooms was tired, but rooms were very clean.
Amazing views though, particularly in first room, which was on a corner with windows on two sides looking out over Cape Town.
Small swimming pool at rear of building was a nice place to relax and cool off.
Breakfasts generally OK, with wide choice of items.
But the crowning glory of the Ritz has to be the revolving restaurant at the top of the building, which has fantastic views. For well under £15 you can have a amply-portioned, three-course dinner with wine while watching the sun go down over the ocean.
