Airport Taxis

by BCTravelGuy

Are taxis readily available at the airport or do I need to call a taxi company and book beforehand?
Also is there is specific taxi company that you would recommend?

Re: Airport Taxis

by DesiPowell

I live in Cape Town and have never particularly noticed a Taxi Rank at the airport though I must admit I haven't ever looked for a taxi there. Why don't you try booking an airport transfer - it may be cheaper than a private taxi anyway. Try www.capetownprivatetours.co.za. Have you already booked your accommodation? The accommodation establishment may have airport transfers available - many of them do. Enjoy your visit to Cape Town. Desi

There is a travel desk that arranges a shuttle or taxi for you. If you want to pre-book, try
http://www.way2go.co.za/shuttle/

Hi,

I can recommend you a website where you can book airport transfers :
www.world-airport-transfer.com

I have already book on this website, it s really good and prices are reasonable.

Re: Airport Taxis

You call €55 per trip reasonable? Here is an extract from the airport website:

Shuttle services

Shuttle buses run from International Arrivals and Domestic Arrivals. A trip in a shuttle bus costs about R120 (€12) a person; any extra passenger from the same group pays only R30 (€3) more.

International Terminal

Randy's Tours - +27 (0)21 934 8367
Anwar's Tourist Services - +27 (0)21 936 2064

Domestic Terminal:

Way-2-Go Tours - +27 (0)21 934 4651
City Hopper - +27 (0)21 934 4440
Centurion Tours - +27 (0)21 934 8281

Taxis

Arriving passengers should use only Touch Down Taxis, the officially authorised airport taxi company.

Re: Airport Taxis

There is a huge taxi rank at the airport.

You ought to have your hotel or guest house arrange your transport, especially if you're arriving late at night, as they often have negotiated rate with a transfer company.

THE PRICES QUOTED ABOVE ARE VERY GOOD.

. . . . too good to be true. Suspect that they are way out of date . . . .

Travel Tips for Cape Town

New friends

by LarsLous

We found a lot of friends on this trip, I would like to introduce them to you. New Friends ,or shall I write 'sisters and brothers on the road?' Maybe this is not the only way to get to know new people, but it surely is a good way. I met very very interesting persons on the road, especially in youth hostels.

Not much here

by jlanza29

Well, since we were some what close, about a hour away in De Keeders, we decided to go to the southern most tip of the continet of Africa.....a long and somewhat boring driving leads you to a town called Cape Aguhlas and at the very end is a lighthouse and on the rocky beach a plaque stating where your at. Other then that there isn't much here.....we spent 2 hours going and coming and spent 5 minutes there......won't do it again.....if you must then be forwarned !!!!!

What to buy where

by paradisedreamer

All the following shops can be found in any of the big shopping centres
Clothes in general – Edgars, Stuttafords, Truworths, Woolworths (Marks & Spencers equivalent), Mr Price (budget)
Toiletries – Clicks
Childrens clothes – Mad Dog, Cape clothing co
Mens clothes - Markhams
Womens clothes - Foschini
Home furnishings – Stuttafords, Boardmans
Newsagents - CNA
Books – CNA, Exclusive books

Most shops are open 9-5 but some may be open longer but not as late as Europeans may be used to.

Car Hire

by paradisedreamer

It is really worth hiring a car while you are in CT. Most of the major rental agencies have depots at the airport. We hired the cheapest car from Budget and got a free upgrade on arrival – Polo 1.6 with air-con costs around R200 per day (unlimited mileage, and insurance incl). When driving watch out for the minibus taxis, they may pullover at any time and the indicators do not necessarily work!

Belgian Beer, International Fare

by Radiomom about ZeroNineThreeTwo - 0932

This was our first meal in Cape Town -- we walked about five blocks from our guest house to the main road, (aptly named Main Road), to this spot, as recommended by Lyzelle the concierge. 0932 is the country code when dialing Belgium.

We sat outside watching passersby and felt quite welcome in South Africa. I had mussels, of course -- I'm always up for mussels, and Steve had a luncheon special which featured our first tast of Kingklip -- a very tasty local fish we were always after happy to see on menus :-) A couple glasses of Belgian beer (on tap) and we were ready for our afternoon explorations!
