Cullinan

Although I did not stay here, it was closer to the Waterfront than the Protea hotel. I liked how it looked on the outside. I could see security on the inside. City Lodge is closer to the Water front than the Cullinam but on the outside it is ugly and it surprisingly is very hard to get a room here because it is always booked. Depending on when you book the Cullinam it can be cheaper or the same price as the Protea hotel. Be careful of reading the maps because many maps will show that Protea is closer to the waterfront but in fact it is not, Cullinam is.

Cullinan Waterfront

Situated at the entrance to Cape Town's exciting V&A Waterfront, The Cullinan Hotel offers glorious views of Table Mountain, the sea and the bustling harbour.

The hotel complements the rich, cultural heritage of Cape Town with a timeless architectural tradition. Every aspect of the hotel denotes the special care that it offers in providing guests with efficient and discreet service.

Elegance and style is evident in the marbled foyer, with its majestic columns and lavish decor, rich furnishings and intricate metalwork.

The guest rooms are spacious with luxury bathrooms, and offer views of either Table Mountain or the Waterfront.

This hotel is ideal for both business and leisure travellers, and provides a full range of services - from the elegant breakfast room and a la carte restaurant, to the ladies' cocktail bar.

For the health conscious, the hotel has its own gym and, for those who prefer a fresh water dip to the cold Atlantic ocean, the outdoor pool is ideal.

Guests who choose to stay at The Cullinan Hotel are assured of exceptionally good value and individual recognition

One of the best hotels.....

Stayed here a few years ago for a week. This has to be one of the best hotels in which I have stayed in anywhere.

The staff are magnificent. Some of the friendliest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. They can't do enough for you. As for the hotel itself, then I have to say that everyting is immaculate. The rooms are cleaned to a very high standard and the room itself is very nice. The pool is average but there is plenty of other things to do in Cape Town rather than sitting there all day!!

Although the bar is obviously more expensive than outside of the hotel, I still found it remarkably cheap (around £1.50-£2 per beer) but that was 4 years ago and at a rate of 15rand to the pound) But still for a hotel of this class, that is excellent.

To finish, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Although more expensive than most, it is well worth it and in my opinion, the staff make it so.

Unique Quality: Magnificent Staff.

Cullinan Hotel, Cape Town

This hotel has a good location, close to the V&A waterfront. The entrance looks rather impressive, but my room was nothing out of the ordinary . The hotel has a bar, restaurant, and a small pool area.

A highly recommended hotel!

I have no complaints at all about the Cullinan Hotel. Fantastic location, service and facilities.

As a member of a party of 45, all or our needs were catered for throughout the eight night stay.

Unique Quality: Both eating facilities are highly recommended. They are the Peach Tree Breakfast Room and Kelsey's Grill House.

Kelsey's is open for lunch and dinner and specializes in Cajun cuisine.

Accomodations and Tours

by iam1wthee

Hello:

I need help bad! I have booked my airfare, but not accomodations because I can't seem to make up my mind on where is the best place to stay. At first I was thinking to stay near the Waterfront, but then I discovered Century City. Which would be the best place to stay for a female visitor to Cape Town?

Also I have decided to go with self catering apartments or guest house as opposed to hotels since they are cheaper. Here is what I have it narrowed down too:

1. Century City would be either
Knightsbridge 2 bd 6 nights at $470 total
Island Club 1 bd 6 nights at $347 total
Both are directly across from Canal Walk

2. Places near Waterfront
Granger Bay 2 bd 6 nights at $767
Dale Court Guesthouse 2 bd 6 nights at $521
Doric studio 6 nights at $651
214 Son Vida 1 bd 6 nights at $564

Hi, my wife and I were in Cape Town a year ago and stayed near the V&A Waterfront area. We were happy with our choice of hotels, the Cullinan Hotel. Not on the cheap side, but they did have a sister hotel near by which was less expensive. I guess what strikes me is that I think you would want a hotel with shuttle service to the V&A Waterfront area of shops and restaurants. Lots of international tourist and activities there. Also you may want a hotel that can arrange for your tours to wine country, Good Hope, etc. and will pick you up at the hotel.
You may be different, maybe these type activites are not what you are looking for, but we didn't want anything to do with driving ourselves around, parking, security, etc.
Cape Town is a fabulous place, full of history, scenery, and diversity. But as in any place do be on your toes. Apartheid only ended 13 years ago, and the country is still growing out of that.

Actually, I was considering your hotel at one point but when I saw that the places near the waterfront were a lot closer than the hotel and less expensive I decided to consider it. Also Dale Court does have tours pick up in front of them. Granger Bay has a walkway tunnel to Radisson and all tours are done thru their reception and pick up in front of their hotel.

Taking into consideration what you have said then I will narrow it down to those two.

Century City is boring. It's also a few km out of Cape town. There are lots of offices and the Canal walk is just a mall like any other mall. Ok for a quick visit but you don't want to stay there. The V&A has a magical vibe with lots to do. You can't compare the two areas.
