3 days in Cape Town

by canuck55

I got some great information on the responses to previous questions. Thanks.

I have a conference in in Bakubung in mid February and a collegue and I intend to stop in CT for three nights before returning. We are trying to fit the most into this time and would like to get a game of golf in. We have nt booked accommodation yet but are considering te Town House Hotel or the Cape Town Lodge.
Any feedback on golf courses and a review of either of these Hotels would be appreciated.

Also, I'm a huge Rugby fan. Are there any venues close by either of these Hotels?

Cheers!

You can play golf at Sun City which is just about 10 minutes from Bakubung. I imagine one round would be pretty expensive.

Thanks. We will be pretty busy in Bakabung and were hoping to golf in Cape town?

Any suggestions there?

I didn't golf in Cape Town but hopefully someone who lives there will help you.
This site might be helpful. Have a great time in South Africa!

Rugby is a winter sport - it is summer here now.

Can recommend the Town House. Haven't stayed there but drunk in there and know that if I was staying in Cape Town, this would be a good choice. I stayed with relatives but was taken to all the best places

Hi

The townhouse is a popular hotel- it is in the city- as opposed to eg the waterfront area- it just depends whether you have your own transport or not/ also if you want to be wher the ACTION is- i imagine that the townhouse is quite.

Cape Town lodge- i dont think i know it- im going to check now..ill get back to you.

Regarding golf- llots of my friends husbands are keen golfers- they play on courses that are a bit out of town... Steenberg is one og them. Although closer to the waterront is the metropolitan golf course...

Ill try get more info for you

The main Rugby stadium- newlands is about 20 minutes from CBD - other than that - no rugby venues- only a local rugby club that i know- near waterfront- called hamiltons- im not sure whether there is anything going on now as its summer.

ill try get back to you with more assistance
My friend is Jonathan kaplan the rugby referee- so ill ask him what he suggests

A great venue to watch rugby is LA MED - it right between clifton and camps bay beaches and you will have a good time there- head on to camps bay after for a drink.

Re: 3 days in Cape Town

oh I see that the cape town lodge is probrably a BIT more central- try also the EXTREME HOTEL (protea hotel group)- if the price is right- and you can get accommodation- you should go there.

Thanks much! I wasn't thinking when I asked about Rugby as we are in the middle of our Season here in Western Canada.
I am finding that all the hotels are booking up fast and we will probably have to pay more or settle for lower standards.

I'll keep trying.

Thanks again!

My foreign colleagues enjoy Westlake & Stellenbosch golf clubs as being good courses at reasonable fees.

Travel Tips for Cape Town

BOTANICAL GARDEN KIRSTENBOSCH

by LysDor

It lies on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. It consists of landscaped gardens of indigenous plants and trees, watered by the Liesbeek River, as well as natural forest that extends up the lower slopes.

It is featuring 4 700 of the estimated 20 000 species of indigenous South African flora.

Among the interesting sections here are the Cycad Amphitheatre, which hosts most species of these 'living fossils' found in southern Africa; the famed Protea.

Ride the wind and the waves

by glennkasner

If there's one thing Cape Town has an abundance of it's wind. Combine this with the fact that we are virtually surrounded by ocean and you get near perfect conditions for the rapidly growing sport - kitesurfing Bring your own or hire locally.

Fantastic beaches

by rachel_sun

Getting There: Here is one of the beautiful beaches in Cape Town. There is a huge amount of beaches around.I found the beaches on the Atlantic coast alot colder(sea temp)than on the Indian sea side. Also,i found the Atlantic side alot windier. But saying that, the beaches were very pleasant.

Getting around with a VW bus

Make a reservation via "CAPE PURSUITS". They are registrated tour guides.(Safety)
Kobus is a great guide speaks many languages - he just forgot to fill petrol - so we had to stop in the middle of CT-but the view on Table Mountain was exceptional !
