Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens are well worth a day or half day. We went in Feb. when most flowers were past their prime, but it was still a great day. There is a large collectin of sculptures as well as a mind-boggling variety of plants. Many cool shady areas to break the heat of the day.
10 million bicycles? .... Almost!
by glennkasner
The annual Argus / Pick n Pay cycle tour (simply known as the "Argus") is the worlds largest individually timed sporting event attracting some 38000 entrants annually. It certainly is an event for all, whether you are a novice or a professional.
A certain amount of fitness is required and entrants are categorised according to their experience.
The event is held on the second Sunday in March each year and attracts participants from all corners of the globe.
Its origin can be traced back to 1978 when only 525 cyclists started the race (446 finished) known as the "Big Ride - In", aimed at creating awareness for the necessity for cycle paths.
The name was changed to "The Argus cycle tour" when a local newspaper took over sponsorship Your bicycle or anything pedal powered with wheels, brakes and a saddle!

Intercape Mainliner to Windhoek
by SirRichard
The best way to go to Windhoek from Capetown is this wonderful modern bus, many miles above the average african standards. You have to check-in your luggage, that goes in a little van behind the main bus. Once inside, you have stewardesses offering you drinks, blankets and "plane-like" facilities.
It takes nearly 19 hours to arrive. There's no train alternative.
On the way, the bus stops every 3 hours or so during daytime. Leaves CapeTown at noon and arrives in Windhoek at 6-7 am next day.
