Hotel accomodation

by mystic54

I and my wife (both 60+) will be visiting Cape Town from 13th to 16th April for three nights stay in Cape Town. Can some one recommend 3* Boutique Hotel in central quiet location close to the water front with a good view and terrace restaurant. Our budget is not exceeding $100/ per night for a twin room including buffet breakfast, VAT.Thanks.

Hi
For the Waterfront you may need a bigger budget.

The only hotel in/near the waterfront that is priced near your budget is the Breakwater Lodge. Used to be a prison (long ago) and now a very nice 3* Hotel.
Try http://www.breakwaterlodge.co.za/

Enjoy your stay

Hi,
There is nothing in that price range that is closer to the Waterfront. I will phone around and let you know in the next day or two.

The waterfront is usually expensive.
I've found 2 places for you to look at using SA Venues web site: http://www.sa-venues.com/search/waterfront.php
The Granger Suites http://www.sa-venues.com/visit/thegrangersuites/
Novana Waterfront http://www.sa-venues.com/visit/navonawaterfront/

Read the reviews from previous guests and check out the rates for the rooms. Otherwise I would suggest you use the SA Venues site and see if you can branch out a little further from the waterfront and see what you can find.

Several of the places listed did not list their prices but ask that you contact the facility directly to get a quote. It's worth trying that as I got really lucky when in Cape Town a year ago & found an apartment in Camps Bay that was fantastic and the total worked out to a $125.00 for 3 people. Good luck with your search.

I have phoned all the hotels in the Waterfront to get their latest prices.

I posted a map that show their locations, and their prices of yestarday here:

For your convenience I also included website addresses.
Enjoy your stay.

Although I did not stay there I saw that the Granger Suites were very close to the waterfront. This is not a hotel though. These are really apartments. I wished I stayed here though.

Travel Tips for Cape Town

The best place on God's Great Earth!

by PoppaG

The Exchange rate (sorry but it's great to have £££'s), you can really go to town in this place - It also means you can afford to give a little away to the beautiful children (just make sure their parents are not watching, so the do not spend it on booze!) The mountain backdrop - It's just so imposing but also reassuring, you always know where you are.

The food and wine are superb - You must take a trip on a wine route, immaculate gardens, Dutch influenced architecture and just a great day out (I think, a little too much wine involved :) )

Meets the Cape Malays

by kenHuocj

their humour, their traditions, their foods
all sperlatives;
for those who know "old adderley" street and the flowers vendors, the witty biting remarks;
the removal of District ^ and others to lands too far away, took away the original heart and soul of Ou Kaapstad.

Bo Kaap below Signal Hill has a touch, but not as intense as before.

Lion's Head

by chikidee

The walk up Lion's Head is quite a nice one. And it's quite adventerous at some parts! With chains and climbing parts. But it's no problem for reasonably fit people!
From the top you have a great view of the city, Camps Bay, Robben Island, Signal Hill and Table Mountain. Not a view all tourists get!

Funky House meets Arabic Decadence

by GerryFM about The Fez Bar

Funky house and garage meets Arabic decadence at The Fez. Situated close to Greenmarket Square, this venue is truly a dance-bar with ample seating in luxurious comfort and a fair-sized dance area for shaking your behind. So, put on your Fez and indulge in debauched Arabian nights amongst the chic and cool of Cape Town. Tuesday nights are new DJ nights, Thursday is the now infamous Thursdaze with funky tunes and Saturday is Robbery - a deep house mission Nothing in particular

Excellent Indian Food

by Rachel about Bukara

Outstanding food and ambiance, in fact, we liked it so much we ate here twice in one week! The restaurant itself is rather large, but it's so popular that reservations are highly recommended. Hip and fashionable, the crowd--and the servers--were very good looking. Dimly lit by candle light, Bukara is definitely an option for a special-occasion meal.

The authentic Indian menu options were flavorful and spicy. The meats were outstanding, with steaks so tender you could cut them with a fork. There were a lot of vegetarian options; we especially loved the spinach lentil and an exceptional eggplant dish. And the wine list was awesome with a lot of South African wines to choose from.

All that, and very inexpensive, too. Including wine, dinner cost only $25 (US) per person. It's so hard to pick a favorite dish, we honestly loved everything we ordered.
