Featherbed Nature Reserve
by pmarshuk
Take a boat trip from the Quays acroos the lagoon to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. Once there you are taken by a trailer up to the top of a hill and then you walk down to the ocean and round through the Heads back to the ferry dock where there is a restuarant if you want a meal and a drink. There isn't really a lot of wildlife to be seen but the woodlands are very nice and the views from the track can be spectacular. Here's a view out to sea through the Heads
Oudtshoorn
by cokes
Oudtshoorn, the centre of the ostrich industry and the world's feather capital, is the Small Karoo's leading town. Feather palaces, large mansions built during the ostrich feather boom, form part of the area's architectural heritage. Ostrich and Game ranches offer plentiful opportunities for interaction with Africa's wild creatures.
Knysna, Garden Route
by myriam_c
Knysna nestles on the banks of a beautiful lagoon in the heart of the ‘Garden Route’ of South Africa. It is surrounded by a natural paradise of lush indigenous forests, tranquil lakes and golden beaches, making it a real natural wonderland.
The most well known attraction being the heads - two great sandstone cliffs guarding the mouth of the lagoon which connects the estuary with the sea.
The Knysna Lagoon is one of the few places along the coast and in the world that supports a oyster hatchery. And the Knysna oysters are reputedly among the tastiest in the world.
And of course you will meet some beautiful black ladies who are very willing to sell you whatever they have to sell.
