Knysna or Plettenberg Bay

by norah123

Would like advice on whether to spend the 2 nights we have in the area around Knysna staying in Knysna itself or in Plettenberg Bay. Don't want to split the stay into two 1 night stopovers. We move on to Swellendam from there and then to Cape Town.
Thanks.

If you like beaches and walks, then Plett. For lots of shops and mass commercialised tourism, then Knysna. But, they are not so far apart. (20 minutes driving time)

I agree with Gerald D - although I am not sure I would quite describe Knysna as "mass commercialised tourism" ;-)

I would look to see which has the best ldging for your taste and budget.

Regards

John

That's probably because I knew Knysna before they built all those shops and golf courses and the waterfront was occupied by a real sawmill, ;-)

We stayed just outside of Knysna http://www.elephanthide.co.za/ which was for us the best of both worlds, a short drive into town but feeling like we were out in the countryside so we visited when we wanted to and then spent more time out walking elsewhere. Storms River Mouth in Tsitsikamma National Park is a lovely place to walk.

Travel Tips for Knysna

Birds of Eden Bird Sanctuary

by mvtouring

I loved visiting the Birds of Eden even though I had a bit of a scary visit with one of the birds coming to sit on my shoulder without any warning! The world’s largest single span aviary, just a few kilometres east of Plettenberg Bay in the Garden Route, where birds are free to fly free provides an incredible experience for those who visit, and a wonderful way of life for over 2000 previously caged birds.

Outeniqua Choo-tjoe

by chikidee

This famous train the Outeniqua Choo-tjoe runs daily from George to Knysna and back.
This steam train runs through amazing scenery!
We didn't chatch the train but saw it from one of the lakes close to Wilderness!

The heart of the Garden Route

"A great location for relaxing and exploring"

This town is a very good central location, providing you have a car. There are many hotel options, along with great restaurants and bars.

The views across the lagoon and from The Heads are stunning.
