3 Day Garden Route Tour

by tini58de

I am posting this question both in the Knysna and the Cape Town Forum, because we are looking into different possibilities to experience a tiny bit of the Garden Route while visiting South Africa this coming April.

We do have a pretty tight schedule, staying with friends in Cape Town, planning various day trips from Cape Town, weekends with friends and hoping to find just a little bit of time to see a little bit of the Garden Route.

Our wish would be a 3 day/2 nights tour from Cape Town to whereever (Knysna) seeing as much as possible (or as different as possible). What we do NOT like all that much is all this commercial/artificial kind of stuff: Aloe Factory, Ostrich Eggs/Farm/Riding/Petting..... if you know what I mean!

We were hoping to either find a 3 day tour to Knysna and back or go to Knysna, stay there for 2 nights and book (half) day trips from there....

Do you have any advice, if this is feasable? Any Knysna B&B recommendations? Bus recommendations? Tour operator recommendations?

Any advice is highly appreciated!

Thanks a lot!

Well, if you don't have the freedom of own transport, those tours will take you to the "commercial/artificial kind of stuff". Seriously consider renting a car and driving yourself out and around there. It really is relaxed easy driving on good safe wide roads.

Something I saw for the first time as a young adult, but it left quite an impression on my mind. The river forms the outline of the Southern Part of Africa as it flows through the mountainous forest area's. From Wildernis, you just follow the road signs and you will not be dissapointed.

A short ferry ride takes you to a beautiful nature reserve called Featherbed. You may feel like this is just another tourist trap . . . but it is not! After a short cogwheel train ride up a steep cliff with walking stick in hand a 1 and half mile trek down a steep narrow organic path providing breath taking views to the wonderful hues of the Indian Ocean as it contrasts to the rugged coastline . . . truly artwork for the eyes. Featherbed is home to the endangered Blue Diker which looks like a miniture BLUE deer as well as home to the Knysna seahorse. The spectacular hike ends with a wonderful lunch at the end of the trail with delicious Kingklip -line fish amazing just amazing. This is a definate must do!!!

Knysna - a good place to stop on the Garden Route

by mikelisaanna

Knysna is one of the more interesting towns to visit along South Africa's famous Garden Route (the southern coastal drive between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town). We spent an evening and 1/2 day there and enjoyed our visit. We stayed at a pleasant little inn, the Inyathi Guest Lodge, whose friendly owners steered us to a great restaurant for dinner, the Anchorage, and then cooked us a good breakfast in the morning. After breakfast, we explore the Knysna Heads, large rock formations that flank the entrance to Knysna's harbor.
