Disturbing

I stayed there for one night earlier this month. When i went for a drink at their restaurant i saw the bartender named Werner using drugs behind the bar. I dont know if the staff are friendly or just high.

A pleasant historic hotel

The Queens Hotel is a historic hotel in downtown Oudtshoorn that was originally built in 1880, during Oudtshoorn's golden age, when ostrich feathers were as valuable as gold. It is the third-oldest hotel in South Africa.

The hotel has about 40 rooms, which were comfortable, but not the main reason to stay here. The best part of the hotel are its two restaurants (one for breakfast and one for dinner) and its upstairs library. The dinner restaurant served some of the best meals that we had in South Africa; we especially liked the ostrich steaks. The breakfast was also very good, with a choice of eggs and other hot dishes, as well as a variety of breads and other cold items. The hotel also has a good low-key bar, which is adjacent to the restaurant.

Our other favorite part of the hotel was the upstairs library, which was full of comfortable chairs and antique furniture, as well as some good books to read. It became our place to hang out after a day of sightseeing and read, relax, and get caught up on our e-mails.

The hotel also has a small outdoor swimming pool, but it was closed for the winter when we were there.

The hotel's staff was friendly and helpful. The man at the front desk gave us some good sightseeing advice, including a recommendation to visit the good museum next door (the CP Nel Museum).

We really enjoyed our stay at Queens Hotel and would recommend it to other travelers. While more expensive than other hotels in Oudtshoorn, the price was not ridiculous. W feel that we got our money's worth.
