Eikendal Wine Estate: High end accommodation

This is a very classy place to stay. High end and totally luxurious. I loved the views from the rooms... they were over looking vineyards. You could also go to this place for just a wine tasting. It costs 50 Rands for 5 glasses.

Batavia Boutique Hotel: The Top rated hotel in Stellenbosch

The name "Batavia Boutique Hotel" is derived from a Dutch Colony in South East Asia called Batavia. The staff will tell you exactly what you need to know about Stellenbosch, where to eat and what to expect, especially Elana, the hostess.

Batavia has won the award for best boutique hotel three years in a row. They know the ins and outs of the hospitality business and will make your Stellenbosch experience!

They are also situated at one of the best locations possible, right off Dorp Street, i.e. in the historical town centre on a quiet street. Within walking distance of great restaurants (about 20 m from one of my favourites Cognito), museums and shops.

(The price given below is for high season (Oct - Apr) and you can expect to pay half of that during low season.)

Romeo and Juliet Hotel: Avoid Stellenbosch and Stay in Franschoek

Avoid Stellenbosch and Stay in Franschoek! While Stellenbosch can be a bit bland, I strongly reccommend driving another 20 minutes to Franschoek, a small town outside of Stellenbosch, and staying in this beautiful, sleepy wine town.

Franschoek is South Africa done right! A small town with multiple vineyards walking distance from the city center, this place is absolutely amazing. In particular, the Romeo and Juliet Hotel is an enchanting place to stay, located in the "downtown" area.

If you are looking for an interesting experience in South Africa, take a chance and avoid Stellenbosch and make a visit to Franschoek! You'll also save a couple bucks!

A sane small town in the Cape Region of South Africa! Great vineyards and a friendly population!

Blueberry Hill Cottages: French country elegance

Situated on the slopes of Middagkrans Peak, this cottage was spacious and comfortable, with all kitchen requirements for self-catering. Blueberry Hill is a boutique wine farm and the surrounding views are pretty and peaceful.

The cottage has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large dining table and a very comfortable sitting room. There is also a television. Five minute drive from the town of Franschoek and plenty of restaurants, cafe's, good gift shops and a grocery store.

The Village At Spier (R310 Lyndock Road ): Nice hotel

The hotels main building is very modern, nice restaurant. The rooms are nice but not really modern like the main buiding. Its got lots of facilites onsite, such as horseriding, wine tasting, a cheetah sanctuary where we got to stroke one! There is also a restaurant called Moya which is part of a chain which gives you a very south african dinner expericence (we went to the one in Jo'burg) There are many other facilites such as a pool & spa. Its about 10-15 mins drive from Stellenbosch - on the way we passed a field full of Zebra, Ostriches, Springboks and Buffalo!

Overall a nice place.

Le Verger: Great vistas over the vineyards & mountains

"Le Verger" is basically a bed & breakfast, but they have one or two self catering cottages too. We stayed at the cottage among the vineyards. You need a car to get here, as it is located way out of Stellenbosch, in the winelands. Even though the panoramas from the cottage are first class, we have really seen better accommodation for less money. Also, we found the reception of the landlady a little cold. But perhaps this was not a good day for her.

It's the views you need to come here for...
