Hillcrest Berry Orchard
by cleocat
Travel a bit out of Stellenbosch on the Helshoogte pass on the way to Franschhoek and stop at this wonderful berry farm. Great shop with every jam you can think of and tons of berries. Caters for allergies, diabetics etc.
Sugar free jams available. Wheat and gluten free bread. The restaurant also caters for this. Great cheesecake, Creme Brulee, brownie's. Nice scenery. Tranquil and lovely and very popular. We had to wait for a table. It was on a Saturday might be quieter in the week.
Have a look at the menu on the website and decide for yourself if you can afford to miss this.
Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch is one of the more interesting towns to visit in South Africa. For starters, it is one of the oldest towns in South Africa, and has a number of interesting histoic buildings and museums that you can tour. It is also home to one of South Africa's most prestigious universities. Finally, it is in the midst of South Africa's wine country, so the town is surrounded by wineries that you can visit. Within the town, there are also numerous good restaurants and a lot of interesting shops that you can visit.
Stellenbosch is about 45-60 minutes' drive from downtown Cape Town, and is an easy and interesting day trip for people staying in the city. That is how we did it. We were staying in Cape Town, and did an all-day trip to Stellenbosch. We walked around the historic district, visited the historical museum, and then drove through the surrounding wine country, stopping at one of the wineries for some tastings. It was a very enjoyable and pleasant day.
