Another one of our great finds in the Cape Town area, the Cheriton was just so relaxing. After three weeks on the road, it was wonderful just to relax at thw Cheriton with its huge panoramic views from two balconies and a fantastically landscaped tiny garden with its small pool.
Denise and Dirk, semi-retired, but with a wealth of knowledge about the town and the whole of the Cape, are almost the perfect hosts, and were especially welcoming to our children. We had detected a "coolness" towards children in South Africa - a resigned tolerance if you like - but here they were positively welcomed.
There are four rooms, each one spacious and with all mod-cons (kettle, big TV, etc) and a lot of extremely thoughtful "little" touches....in our room the tap for the shower was outside the cubicle so you didn't get soaked when turning it on!
There is a small subterranean, nautical-themed bar, which is just amazing.
Breakfast - huge and filling every morning - is served either in the dining room or out on the verandah. Just wonderful.
We will definitely be back and we look forward to returning to the Cheriton.
There is no secure parking at the Cheriton but it is at the top of the hill on the edge of town so pretty safe!
The Boulders Beach Penguin Colony is at the bottom of the hill, just three minutes walk away (ten minutes back...it's a steep hill!)  Just in case you get lost by Eish
The location is about 30 m from the beach, where you can swim with penguins. The beach is administered by SANPARKS, since this is part of a national park.
The only drawback is the fact that not only the penguins can look through your bedroom window, but all the tourists parking their cars too.
