Wanted to stay at the Olympic Palace Hotel but for one reason or anther I ended up here. This place is probably the next step down from the Mercure which used to be the Hilton.
It has two wings...one is for guests who want breakfast and the other is for folsk like me who will pass.....just as well the food is so so and there is a Shwarma and Ice Cream shop that were started by a Dutch guy accross the street which are a better value
This place has the softest bed that I slept in during my stay in Sudan and the room was spotless. It tends to attract businessmen working on projects in the port and some locals as the former Hilton tends to be full of Europeans coming and going from dive trips on the Red Sea
The stay itself was Ok but nothing brilliant. the rooms were basic: twin beds and TV with CNN, which was something fantastic in those days.
We puzzled throughout our stay why the sheet covering the bed had a hole in the middle. Eventually we discovered it was to put the blanket in [ sort of like a duvet cover].
