Nubian House Hotel: The Nubian House
Since my last trip to Barkal I have been keen to stay in this hotel, but when I went in dec 2010 it was fully booked. Maybe next time.
Unique Quality: The hotel is built to resemble a traditional Nubian house.

Begrawiya Oases: Motel or Gattatit?
The accomodation is located at the old Kushite Capital of Meroe, about 210 km nort of Khartoum and 30km from Shendi.
The motel has double and single bedded rooms with fridge, TV and bathroom, as well as AC.
Gattatit are traditional straw =style houses . There are 7 available, each of which can accomodate 7 people, all with AC.
There are 24 hour restaurants, Gas station, Pharmacy annd Supermarkets ;
I have not yet stayed here.

Yes, you can camp near Meroe
Not in the pyramid field itself, but in the dunes about half a kilometer southeast. No one will bother you, and it is very pleasant. There is no charge. Please, though, bury your poop and take away your trash when you leave! Because of the aridity, it will never decompose in the sand, and we were sad to see piles of food scraps, paper, etc. left by other campers.

Hotel near the site: Not finished yet
A hotel is under construction near to the historical site of Meroe, however, we were told that they did not get permission from the government and hence it has been left unfinished.
Apparently there is a camp nearby run by Italians. It is also possible to sleep on the site if you have a sleeping bag and ask the officials kindly for permission!

Sleeping under the stars
Apparently you can camp out near the pyramids in the middle of the desert. I would imagine this is an amazing experience, although there is talk of snakes and scorpions. Friends of mine have also stayed with the gatekeeper and his family...he was very keen for us to stay, but we had to get back to Khartoum that evening so couldn't accept his offer...served us right, as we ended up stranded in Shendi that evening!

A: "Hi! If you are coming from the north to "Meroe - Royal City" then you can show up at the gate and get your entry ticket there. From Khartoum you can take any bus going..."
