General info about Arusha needed

Do I need to book my flight to Zanzibar early or is it ok to wait until the day before I go? I want to remain flexible if it is possible.

Anyone know the going rate this summer for one way flight to Zanzibar.

I am also interseted in any good tips for Arusha. I am interested in going to the Rwanda War tribunal. What is the best time of day to go? is it worth going too? Also interested in cultural village tours but not villages set up for tourists. Are there any budget ones?

Also, what hotel do you recommend? I am staying at the Impala for my first night in Arusha but it lacks charm. What nice, $50-80 per day hotels can you recommend? I want good location, safe and airconditioning if possible. I am past my party all night days/nights and dont want to stay in a loud, crazy hotel - I prefer charming, non chain hotels.

I am open to any recommendations for restaurants, things to see, etc.

Thanks in advance - please feel free to email me directly at sarah@ayurveda.com

To get the airfare do a search for precision air,we flew with them in 2002 they were great. It was approx $120 I think one way from Arusha in 2002,but they do have a website, just do a search.

Hi
It will depend on the time of year, in high season you could well find that all flights are booked out.
You can visit the tribunal, it would depend on what trials are being conducted for the time of days.
Try the www.habari.co.tz/ilborulodge for a nice place to stay.

Travel Tips for Arusha

Arusha Tanzania - March 2006

"Coffee plantation"

This is a British coffee plantation off the main highway in Arusha. I had never seen one before.

"Yummy food!"

Empanada-style dish. I forgot the name of the restaurant in downtown Arusha.

"Khan's BBQ in Arusha"

Known by our friends as "Chicken in a Ditch" this was one of our best meals in Tanzania. An auto parts store is converted into a sidewalk restaurant at night. Lots of chicken, and many Indian-style side dishes are set out buffet-style.
