The School of St Jude
by fishandchips
St Jude is the patron saint of hopeless causes and that's the source of the schools pupils. The School of St Jude is located just out of Arusha and takes the brighest of children from the poorest local families and gives them a free education. There is a selection process that children must go through including a few academic tests and a visit to the childs home to ensure that all is as it should be.
A visit here is really interesting and you wouldn't think that the kids are poor at all. They are all very well presented in new looking school clothes (they must ensure that the clothes are well looked after) that they are presented with each year.

Arusha to Dar es Salaam Walk
by sandlin
Situated beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, and half way point between Cario and Cape Town, Arusha was chosen as the starting point of the Arusha to Dar es Salaam walk, approximately 400 miles. This walk not only realised a personal ambition but also raised money for JEMA, an enviromental organisation based at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. From Arusha we took the road to Moshi and followed the railway line eastwards heading for the Tanga region. After crossing the Pangani river we followed the coast south through the Sadani Game Reserve to Bagamoyo and final arrived in Dar es Salaam, exhausted but exhilarated! The group consisted of 2 guides, the JEMA co-ordinator, and myself.
