Arusha
"Arusha, Safari Capital"
Arusha is pretty much of a nothing city.
A sea of hotels for the tourists awaiting the trips to the National Parks, there is very little to see or do other than plan and prepare for the trip on Safari.

The Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge is quite nice. I have not stayed there but I have inspected the site to see if it qualified for my five star tours. You do realize that it is not in Arusha, but about twenty miles out of town, about halfway to Mt. Kili. If I remember correctly, it is located on a coffee plantation.
They have a tour desk, and will help you with trips to Arusha Nat'l Park and local villages. A visit to the Ngorogoro Crater is a must, and you can get a trip there from the Lodge.
Unfortunately, I never did get to actually use this place for my tours, but I do not think you will be disappointed. Have fun, hope this helps......d:o)
thanks for the response. yet in some other travel pages, 10 out of 14 reviews strongly do not recommend the hotel due to poor facilities (like no hot water), poor hospitality, painfully long service, mediocre food, etc... am having a second thought about ngurundoto...
any other hotel that can be recommended? what i need is an environment surrounded by a real nice nature of green colour, preferrably not limited by artificial structures. and nevertheless the hotel interior must be of a modern standard, i.e. not old or run-down, not dark, no bathroom or bedroom problems, no bugs, etc.
and what are the regular average prices of the hotels there for double?
cheers!
Hmmm, very interesting. I did look at the Trip Advisor reviews and, was somewhat surprised. It appears that they have decided to make the lodge into a conference hotel with obviously mixed results. Granted when I inspected the place, I was shown all ther best features, and the food basket they made for me to go, was great. That being said, I was disappointed in reading the reviews. I was there before they went into these major conference renovations. Good for you to properly do your research.
Now, for some I can recommend from personal experience, bringing five star groups to Tanzania.
Ngorongor Crater Lodge. On the edge of the crater, I would highhly recommend. Been there a few times.

Bilila Lodge Kempinski. In the Serengeti Nat'l Park. Cannot do better that that.

...and the Faru Faru Lodge. also a Kiwi collection lodge, and also in the Serengeti.

I have stayed at both of them and my groups were overall ecstatic. They are not cheap, but they do live up to their claims.
