by whitetipper Arriving in Kilwa we asked for a place to stay. Someone suggested a place in the town of kilwa masoko, a bit far from the sea but reasonably cheap and clean. For the first night it was our base. The next day we had a stroll on the beach and we stopped at kimbilio lodge. No sign outside, no posters on the street, an unknown little resort. it happend then to discover that it belongs to an italian felllow, has 8 exquisite bungalows and the only diving centre for miles. The accommodation is expensive but at the owner's choice..if he likes you he will drop it down sensibly. The food was great, with all imported goodies from Italy, like parmesan cheese...and the diving..one of the best!!! Our room lacked of a/c but the owner said he was in the process of fitting a/c in all rooms. The music at the cosy bar was fantastic and over all we had a great time.

Set on a cliff overlooking beautiful Kilwa Masoko Bay, it is the perfect place to stay to explore the historical ruins on Kilwa Kisiwani Island and Kilwa Kivinje, whilst having a place to relax in comfort. There is a refreshing pool to relax in at any time of the day to cool down and chill out, with the coldest beer in Tanzania we have found! The bungalows are simple and clean, but very comfortable bed, and good shower, with gorgeous views overlooking the bay. The staff are superb, and give top notch service. The food is very tasty, and keeps you looking forward to your next meal (particularly the prawns!). Kilwa Masoko is a traditional bustling village off the beaten track. It is not full of tourists, and the locals are very friendly and interested in you. All the activities available are great fun and very interesting, yet they do not feel touristy, you feel like you are pioneers visiting the ruins, the dhow trip to Kilway Kisiwani is not to be missed to visit the ruins! Ask for Samuel and Jamelia, they will look after you! Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: There is an airfield, or you can drive to get there.
