The Old Boma is an old colonial German headquarters, which has been lovingly restored into a beautiful, white-washed building, with a lovely, shaded pool to relax in. The hotel and all the rooms have been tastefully decorated using local artistry work, and furniture. Gorgeous poster beds, all protected by mosquito nets of course.
The hotel is part of a project for Trade Aid UK, a UK based charity. They have purchased and restored the property to its original splendour and are focussed on providing sustainable employment in the area for the local people. Although the hotel is run by Trade Aid, all the other staff are local and provide a service that 5 star hotels would wish to achieve. The culture of the area is kept well alive, as Mikindani is well off the beaten track, and tourists are a novelty. There are so many activities, we would highly recommend the snorkelling and swahili cooking course. We can't wait to go back.
