view from the first floor balcony at the Kindoroko by JulesH This hotel didn't promise very much from the outside. A tiny doorway squeezed between two shops, always with cab drivers and slightly undesirable characters hanging around outside. A Masai warrior guarded the doorway from his seat on an old tree stump just outside meaning you would have to squash past him with a cheery "Jambo" on the way in...he wasn't about to move for us! But at the end of the long corridor, the reception area was an al fresco wood decking affair covered with an idyllic makeshift roof filled with lush green plants in pots to give it that real jungle feel. Cast iron seats covered in comfortable cushions were scattered around with logs and rustic looking tables. The reception desk and bureau de change office were dark natural looking wooden constructions, and the signage was new and undamaged. The first thing I noticed was that this place was very clean and fairly modern, despite being so outdoorsy and rustic looking. The seats all had soft cushions in a good state of repair, and there were two restaurants and bars, one behind reception and one on the roof. The rooms were basic with mosquito nets in most rooms although these were in a bad state of repair where present. The single rooms are very small, but serve as somewhere to lay your head, and are half the price of a double. The doubles at the front of the hotel are quite large and afford excellent views of Mt Kilimanjaro (see the photo), although they can be a little noisy (note the mosque at the far end of the street in the picture.) Moshi never seems to be quiet, and even at 3am cars are revving engines and hooting horns, so perhaps bring some earplugs for a quiet life if local bustle is not wht you are looking for.
The rooftop terrace was breathtaking. We climbed the stairs to find a full and interrupted view of the mountain, more comfy chairs, a bar, restaurant and every evening, a rooftop barbeque is prepared and served for 8000 tsh per person (all you can eat) at a long table covered by a gazebo tent and romantically lit by night. I couldn't imagine anywhere better to spend my time in Moshi. by JulesH On our return from the Island of Zanzibar, we decided that we would like a quieter time of it, and not needing to go back to the centre of Moshi for any reason, we booked into the Impala Hotel. This was a beautiful hotel with lush green lawns and it's own swimming pool, tables on the terrace with a restaurant which seemed to be open for food and drink at almost any time, good quality rooms with air conditioning, beautiful clean tiled bathrooms and reasonable shower. We had a very pleasant evening here before we had to get up at 4am to catch our flight home, however it was a little noisy as the location of our room was directly adjacent to the hotel bar where music was playing until quite late. Despite this, we had a good night's sleep, and it was still more peaceful than the street noise outside the Kindoroko.
The pool is lovely and the outside kitchen is an interesting feature. The hotel is also very secure as the gate is closed at night and a security guard sits by it all night long. Springlands Hotel, Moshi by jackfruit Excellent hotel to serve as a base in Moshi for your Kili or Meru trek. Rooms are standard size with clean large bathrooms. Garden bar is open late. Beer, soda and tomato/cheese sandwiches are served until midnight. Food is ala-carte for lunch and buffet style every night. Breakfast is again buffet style, with the choice of eggs made to order (try the spanish omelete, it's great!). If you need anything, Layla at the reception wil take care of you! She's a whiz! This hotel is situated in a secure compound about 15 minutes walk (3 kms) outside Moshi town. The hotel will arrange for a taxi into town and also local rainforest walks to look for Colobus monkeys if you so desire. Cheap internet access available after 7pm or so until 10pm. Hotel only accepts cash or TCs. No plastic. Gift store is very pricey - dont get anything here. You will get much better deals either at the kili park gate or while on your safari. Although we did buy "Kili - Just done it" T-shirts after our trek! Couldnt resist...
Well manicured gardens with an excellent view of the twin Kili peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. Nice big swimming pool with a garden bar that is open late.

We had a pleasant stay in Bristol Cottages. We stayed in the rooms as opposed to the cottages and found them to be nice and clean, with satelite TV, nets, fan, hot water and clean bathroom. The upper level and rooftop have great views of Kili. Benny the manager there was genuinely helpful and friendly.

Although not in Moshi, Village to Village Tanzania, a small NGO, offers accomodation in Uchira, a friendly small town a short DalaDala ride away from Moshi. The site is situated in a stunning location- at the top of a hill overlooking Uchira. The Pare mountains can be seen in the distance, and Mount Kilimangaro reveals itself on a clear day. The staff are friendly, the food is tasty. and if you want to do more than just stay, you are welcomed to help out with any of the the organistations projects.
Money spent goes towards the NGOs projects, so is money well spent. It has amazing views as descibed above and if you want to get to know the locals it is the place to be.

View on Mt Kilimanjaro - Moshi - Tanzania by Maeve_81 An amazing place to stay, right there with Mama Lucy and Mt Kilimanjaro. They have a lawn to pick your tent and they rent rooms. The toilets are clean and the showers have hot water. There's also a snake park, a little shop and a bar with very cheap drinks (Tsh 200 for a soft drink, Tsh 750 for a bier). Every sundaynight there's a show. It's not touristic, they are people from the cultural center. But it's the best performance I saw in Africa so far... Prices ? * camping Tsh 4000 * banda Tsh 24 000 (2 persons) Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averagePhone: +225 27 275 46 08Other Contact: honeybadger@africamail.com

the pool by drcondon When i arrived in Moshi I stayed for the first night in Keys Hotel before i moved into the plush doctors compound at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre. Service is impecable, the african feel to the hotel is remarkable. Everyone is some incredibly friendly. Tends to be a lot of Americans here who dont really have a clue about safari, or how to act in another country.
Food is brilliant and quite cheap, there is lovely bar and all kinds of alcohol. Outside there are African huts but they tend to be a little dated and not very realistic. My room had a good view onto Mount Kilimanjaro and there were flowers and colour everywhere. Nice pool too A lot of people say it is not as nice as some of the other hotel but i disagree. It was amazing, really settled me into my first night.
